Has anyone spent money on the game (aside from the online subscription and like actual game lol)

I told myself I wouldn’t cave and like buy NMT or something and that I would trade for everything I needed but I paid someone $2 for two pagodas 😔

I don’t think spending real money is common, but I’m curious about everyone’s opinion on it ^_^

Personally I probably won’t do it again lol I was just really desperate

Unless it's something that's going straight to Nintendo I likely wouldnt spend money on in-game goods.

I've spent money on amiibo if that counts? But that was years ago when they first released so I'm not sure if it does since it's a licensed product.

People selling bells and NMT for money are probably duplicating them using hacks so I stay away from that business. It's very shady to me.

I've spent money on a custom Static amiibo, but other than that I don't think there is anything I want that badly.... Although... I understand paying for a Pagoda lmao I want one and people have been asking for 30 NMT or 5M bells, which I don't have, but I do have one dollar lol

a couple weeks ago, i decided to buy a handmade ankha amiibo coin off of etsy for the simple fact that everyone was charging an absurd amount of NMT's or bells for her and I got sick of people on discord ignoring my perfectly reasonable offers. i plan to buy raymond/audie's amiibo cards in the future when they come out

I think it can be really tempting for some people since these online shops and ebay sellers have like every single item already from all seasons and events as well as clothing and lots of nook miles tickets which people use as payment for almost everything now. The catch is also that an item may cost less than a dollar but if you want a couple of them things start to add up quickly

i spent 45 quid on the game i am not paying for stuff with irl money lol

most of the time people selling for irl money are people who have hacked the game.

i made NMT and bells through selling villagers on here while searching for my dreamies

hm I got some amiibos but I wouldn't pay for anything else
but I get it imo it's smarter to pay for stuff than to waste hours with searching it yourself

Personally, what I feel this boils down to is perceived value and personal finances.

If you have the money, and you think it is worth it to spend X for Y - then you go ahead and do it, who am I to tell you what you should, and should not, spend your money on.

for me, yeah - I've spent maybe about $15 in total now for amiibos and items with various sellers. I don't like grinding away on mystery islands for hours on end trying to find a villager. I want my island the way I want it and I want it now. The game itself is so vast and dense, that for me, there's still so much to explore even with the convenience of these purchased goods.

my only advice for people who are looking into paying actual money for in-game items, would be to look carefully at the market price and what you are paying for. For example - does a villager go typically go for 50 NMT on the NMT market? It would be wiser to get one of those deals on eBay for 400 NMT for $10, as it would make the cost of the villager come down to $1.25 cents, versus paying $12.00+ on an amiibo. The flipside is also true - I see people selling Raymond for upwards of 800-1000 NMT - which would be anywhere from $20-$30 worth of NMT. If you're going to spend real currency anyway, you can find a better deal for Raymond than that.

so yeah, it's all relative. everything is relative. if you think someone is charging too much for something, whether it be IG (even villagers! I mean really Judy? a workout tank for 2400 Bells??) or IRL, just don't buy it. it's that simple.

I’m not going to mention how much IRL money I spent on this game 😅 It’s too stupid. I was pretty desperate at the time. I told myself to wait and let it come naturally, but I caved and bought some stuff with real money 😣 Never again. People charge you too much money just for virtual objects in this game :/ Not worth it IMO. I regret so much, because I definitely don’t support how they obtain certain things. Also, I purposely didn’t mention what it was that I bought because I feel like a complete moron 😭😭😭 Just thinking about it makes me upset. I honestly don’t know what I was thinking at the time..

Not for New Horizons, no, but I stupidly spend $100 on a full 50-card set of the Welcome Amiibo (RV) series in New Leaf. I also spent a few bucks each on a Resetti and Rover figurine because I liked their items. I justified it because I figured that for each amiibo, I liked multiple items in their RV. I thought, "Well, 40 cents an items isn't bad..."

Now I have 52 near-useless amiibo (only one of the villagers whom I actually want in my town) and they didn't even bring the RVs and all those amazing items back!

I'm never buying amiibo again, in all likelihood. Though I might try making my own at some point if I get desperate enough for Lolly...

EDIT: Besides amiibo, I would never spend RL money (again) on anything else, like in-game items. I learned my lesson the first time! The amount of greed and the high (relative) cost to low value isn't balanced at all, IMO. I had friends who spent up to $60 a month on Pocket Camp items, and that was still only enough to buy them a few things because the items could cost $7+ for ONE ITEM. Villagers I can kind of understand because they add a lot of function and content to the game, but items mostly just sit there and look nice. It's not worth it to me.

Nah, not for in-game items at least. I bought amiibo cards years ago. I remember finally getting the whole crew...Sprocket, Static, Knox, Sterling, Punchy, Agent S, Kid Cat, Snake, Mira and Ribbot...what a glorious day it was.

I wouldn't spend money on it - that's not how the game was intended to play. I know the market for NMT is pretty messed up at the minute but I'm sure eventually it will die down once the game drops a couple pegs in popularity. It's focused heavily on RNG so although it's down to luck, most things can be obtained a lot easier than in NL (for example, villagers. at least we can island hop to find our dreamies and aren't relying solely on the luck of a random plot pick)

There are plenty of helpful players in the forums who have helped me attain furniture/other items. Spending money would only be last resort if you wanted something immediately. I would advise being very careful though as it's easy to get scammed by doing this.

I've purchased amiibo cards and the regular amiibo figures like Kicks and Celeste, but other than those things I haven't spent real money on the game and probably wouldn't.

no way would i pay for in game items in a game that doesnt even have micro transactions. no thank you.

I might pay for some more Amiibo packs someday, but definitely not IGB or NMT. It's just shady imo.

Amiibo, yes. Not recently but I bought a bunch of packs when they were in stores. With the amiibo I can use them multiple times, in four three games (HHD, NL, NH, AF), plus my wife and friends can also use them. If my file corrupts or the switch breaks ect. I can just get my villagers back.

I would never pay for individual items though. I don't want to feed into that market for starters but also either someone will sell it to me for in game money, I'll find it myself, or I can live without it.

I cant imagine paying people real money for anything in this game lmao, as long as you're a good negotiator getting what you need is easy, no real money needed
