Special holiday going on for japanese players in AC:NL

There's a special event for japanese players it's called tanbata. And if you go to there town you get an Bamboo grass item, here i took some pictures

What does the bamboo grass item do? If it's the item in your picture that I'm assuming it is, it kind of looks like a Christmas tree! xD

Basically at tanabata (star festival) you write a wish on a piece of paper and attach it to a bamboo tree. (It's what the Pokemon Jirachi is based on...)

I'd really love to visit a Japanese town but I don't have anyone with the Japanese version to visit

my town is having a tanabata (real life town haha), i really wanna go but i have no friends to go with orz

and of course i can't enjoy it in the game either
