Technically, the highest safe amount is 30,000 because a fail will just make you break even.

Well, it's actually a pattern similar to the turnips. Some days will be more fertile giving you more then you put in just like the 99K trees you mentioned.

It's not a gamble once you know your town's pattern.

That could mean that one day out of those 4-5 was one of your fertile days

I saw one person say that they were getting the 99k trees every other day, in a pattern. That has not been my experience. Today I started marking the trees and am planting 30k to see what happens. Only a couple times did I get 90k, but I didn't notice a pattern.

It's a pattern like x | o | x | o | o which means it might be on a specific day one time and then will move to a different day.

Notice how not all days are the same each week but the pattern does continue.

Yes, that's why I started marking my trees and taking notes because otherwise my memory is terrible and I'll never figure it out! If there's a pattern that'd be great, better than if it were just random. I am pretty sure it's not every other day, though... at least not in my town.
