Someone just stole a bunch of my stuff

I accidentally left my gates open for about 2 hours, with my nintendo closed. I opened it after remembering I had left it on, and someone had taken about 10 pink roses, 2 red carnations, 3 gold ore, about 8 ruby ore, 5 royal crowns, a bunch of non-orderable furniture, and a handful of regular spawned flowers without me knowing. First of all, I just am blown away by this. I have never experienced someone in an animal crossing community intentionally harming someone else's town. I am just really disappointed and sad honestly. I'm not sure how to fix this, I tried restarting without saving, and it didn't matter. I just can't believe this could happen. Does anyone know if there is any way to figure out who it was? I'm scared to have them in my friends list.

Since you had your game closed, there's not really a way to figure it out. Especially if you have a lot of fc in your ds. If you don't then it may be a little easier. I'm sorry this happened. The game saves when someone arrives or leaves regardless of if your ds is closed. I would suggest deleting fc after you finish trading with someone.

If anyone sees someone selling a very suspiciously similar list of items to those which were stolen, could they let me know? I have too many friends to check, and since it could have happened from 0-2.5 hours ago, I can't really guess who it could be Just really surprised mostly, because I've only added people from here and another forum, and everyone seems so nice and honest. Thanks for your advice!

It was a guy named Hector so if I were you I would go through your FC and delete him if he's there. But first give me his FC! I deleted him so fast when he did it to me that I didn't think about writing it down so I could tell him off on here.

I'm sorry that it happened to you. This is why I close my gates when I leave my DS And what the above user said, the safest way to prevent this is to delete friend codes after trading. Some people are just so inconsiderate. I hope the incident that occurred doesn't make you think about this forum in a bad way, alot of us are really nice and abide by the rules. Have you added anyone outside of the forum as well by any chance? Anyway I will be glad to help you in recovering by donating bells and any extra flowers you lost I can breed..

I don't have any of those types of flowers but I have bells I could give you to help you out. I'm sorry that happened. I was certainly upset too.

I didn't know people can still enter even with 3ds closed. I've been warned now...
You could try opening your gates for a moment with stuff at the station while seeing who enters uninvited. Then don't reply at all and appear afk to see if they steal anything. Flick the switch if they do and there you have the (or another) culprit. Just an idea though.

That's actually a really good idea it might make the culprit come back and you can catch them in the act!

If you look at your friend list, you can see when they were last online, just delete everybody who was online then till now.

Everyone else has pretty much mentioned the advice I would have given. Please don't let this person tarnish how you feel about playing with others, though. A lot of us really are friendly and trustworthy. I know I treat everyone's town the way I would want others to treat mine.

Is there anything I personally can do to help? I don't have too many interesting hybrids at this point, but I could donate some pink roses, a gold ore and some bells if need be!

Never leave your gates open to public :/
It's better to just save and close.
If you remember the persons FC, you should look it up and report him and make sure nobody else interacts with him on ANC.
That just sucks.
