Hi I started playing about a week ago and I was wondering how do you trade items with other players? as I don't see the game having a trade function. Also what is IGB and TBT? cause I see them often in the trade forum

heya, welcome aboard btw,

in order to trade, you exchange 3DS friend codes, (each 3ds has a friend code set up under your friend tab in your DS) and that allows you to play over wifi and interact with other people. in order to trade in acnl, you have to visit a town who's gate is opened! you can open your gate at the train station located at the front of your town. :') either you or your friend will have an open gate and you'll go visit, or they'll visit. this brings your items in your pockets and you're able to access anything in your storage compartments as well! leaving you able to "drop" them onto the ground for your friend to pick up!

tbt or btb is bell tree bell's also known as the forum currency. you currently have 7 btb!
igb refers to bells in the animal crossing games. (in-game bells)

(Or if your a boy I dunno.)

So dropping the item on the floor is the way to trade? ain't that not safe since they could run off without paying?

That is what the WiFi switch is for. Just give it a good flick before they have a chance to run off and it will be like they never came over. You can always check their WiFi ratings if you feel hesitant. Their ratings show up as a percentage rate in retail/train station/tbt market boards or in a tab on their profile.

I personally would recommend only trading on sites that have some sort of rating system, like The Bell Tree Forum. The Animal Crossing trading subreddit also has a rating system. There's a handy list of friend codes to be wary of on that subreddit as well. I'd recommend bookmarking it. This forum has a really great userbase, plus the ratings are always there in case you're not totally sure of whether or not you'd want to trade with someone. Always trade with people who have 100% ratings and you should be fine.

To avoid getting scammed, avoid trading with people on sites without a rating system, like tumblr. Most of my tumblr transactions ended up with me flipping the Wi-Fi switch, so I don't interact with the ACNL community there anymore.
