[Solved] Opened/Undelivered Package Error

I mistakenly accepted a package delivery from Bonbon to give to Elvis, so I opened the gift and sold it assuming it would remove the request.
Unfortunately, now both villagers only have prompts involving the gift. This happened yesterday, and today they are still only talking about it.

Is there any way to bring them back to normal, do they forget in time, etc?
I've seen a few others with this problem as well, though I couldn't find a conclusion listed. Has anyone else had this issue?

Solution: You won't be able to talk to them normally until after the time given to you to deliver has passed into the next day.

Ex: A villager gives you the rest of today and tomorrow to deliver a package. You won't be able to talk to them or the package receiver until the day after tomorrow if you happen to sell the package. Kind of inconvenient given this was an instant process in New Leaf, but not the end of the world.

This is new to me. What did you do with the item that was inside the gift? Would selling it (and thus 'removing' it from the game) maybe help?

I sold the item -- I'll be sure to add that on as well to help clarify.

That's weird. I can't find anything about it online, either. Random idea, but maybe try giving both of them a gift? Or maybe having someone over on your island to give them something else to talk about?

I was thinking if it doesn't clear up tomorrow, I'll just reorder the gift and see what happens.
The issue may be because the gift was given late, so Bonbon accepted it being delivered that day or the day after (now).
If I'm still having the issue afterwards I'll definitely try what you suggested.

I was able to travel to next day since I'm catching up, and it luckily resolves once you pass the time given to deliver the package!
