so what happened in my village void?

I suddenly have Stinky the cat appearing in the shopping district in my village. Stinky never move in to my village so I'm pretty sure he will not be in void. but suddenly he's appeared. what is causing this? thanks

This isn't much but if you talk to him, he should give you some dialogue regarding whether he is visiting (past villager) or a new villager.

I think he'll just repeat the same dialogue again once you reload the game?
If it isn't anything related to him visiting from another town, and he isn't one of your current villagers. I have no idea where he came from, unfortunately. Quite a strange case...
