I looked online, and I learned that by using the megaphone near villagers, you could test how close you are to another villager. If they look confused, you're not good friends with them. If they look at you and wave or bow, you're good friends with them.

What I don't get is that I haven't had Rolf for long in my town. I've had Gladys, Freya, and Inkwell longer than him, but... he waves at me, while those three just look confused when I call their names. I don't really do anything different with him that I do with the other villagers.

Also, does getting random letters from villagers mean you're getting close to them as well? Only Goose(who moved recently) and now Tex have done this for me so far.

I'm only asking because I feel like I should have gotten a picture by now. Feels like a longer process than in Wild World.... at least for me at any rate. XP

You sure ask hard questions!

I had NO idea any of this was a thing? Measuring friendship with a Megaphone, whaaaat?

I've heard of that lol. I do believe that getting letters means that you're becoming close with villagers. You can also tell when they start calling you by a nickname or start pinging you more often and asking for more favors. But it varies by personalities. Some personalities are harder to befriend, so some might take longer just because they're snooties or crankies.

I've found it's easier to get closer to the normal and jock villagers than it is to the others. Peppy villagers are also easier to befriend.

Or if Saturday falls on a weekend.

It doesn't matter how long a villager has been in your town. It just depends on your level of friendship. Raising your friendship level includes always doing errands for them, talking to them, sending them stuff, etc.

And it takes awhile to get a picture. It seems the only opportunity to get a picture is when doing an errand for them. Usually if you deliver something for them or get them a fish or whatever, they would give you a random gift but instead it's a picture.

I've had Diana in my town for two and a half years filled with doing tons of things for her, yet she's probably only given me her pic twice. It takes a long time, and the opportunity to get it seems to be random.
