So I got the new 3DS...

They probably removed it because it was pointless for most of the people. (Atleast for me, except for wifing on acnl)

omg, that' s too bad! I won't be buying it, unless there's a new AC exclusive for it! What would happen if you shut your 3ds while somebody was in town? Wouldn't it disconnect?

That is the worst design ever lol. Why would they even consider removing the Wi-Fi switch?

Probably for the same reason a charger isn't included and the inclusion of a micro SD card:$$$$.They remove some features so they can keep the price down. They did it with the original XL.The original 3DS XL came without the charging tray that the regular 3DS had and also seemed to be made of lesser quality materials. My original XL fell apart while my regular 3DS is still going strong.

It doesn't do anything. I regularly leave my cycling town open for people to come and go, and I don't leave the 3DS itself open.

Yeah my husband just got the new 3DS and we booted it up for the first time while on a plane >_< Took us a while to figure out how to turn off the wifi. There were probably some annoyed flight attendants.

If you want to d/c or something, you use the power button instead of flicking the switch. Sure it's harder, but it's the same effect of a d/c that's maybe...an extra 30-40 second inconvenience? No big deal to me.

totally agree with this..and I honestly never use the wifi switch anyways..

The problem is that it saves when someone leaves, so you have to be careful if someone runs to the train and leaves your town...your last save won't matter if it re-saves. Also, I wouldn't count on the power switch, as I've heard flipping that while in the game can corrupt the file. I don't know if that's true for sure, but everyone I know avoids that.

The system doesn't take forever to power down, unless you're letting the person have free unsupervised roaming in your town, it's pretty obvious when they're making a run for it

Losing the wifi switch bothered me so much I feel like having a candlelight vigil for it since I didn't get to properly say goodbye. But that's not the only thing that bothers me, how about having to unscrew and pop off the back panel to get to the SD card. What a pain in the butt that was. Also the new position of the game cartridge sucks. I have for the first time ever lost a cartridge. When it was on the top of the console and popped out it was okay but being on the bottom if you don't notice it right away it'll just fall out. I hope someone is enjoying my Donkey Kong :(

Thank you NightDelight for starting this topic -
it's good to see that I'm not the only one who have a few...dislikes about this new console.
What stopped me from caring & buying the New 3DS:

- noped my way out when I see the hideous color / design choices.
Yes, I'll be the one who would be looking at it for a while, so color/looks are the first and decisive factors.
Let me put this in an ACNL villagers perspective:
Expecting to invite Beau/Julian/Mitzi/Lolly, got Violet/Al/Rocket/Barold instead.
I am not gonna pay $600+ for any of those hideous things.
(Initially I planned to buy 3 to replace all my current 3DS XLs, which I bought less than a year ago)
If Nintendo NA is really so dumb to not care to add some prettier colors to the lineup, then they do not deserve my $.

- The 'relocation' of the wifi switch and the cartridge slot

- Seriously, you need to unscrew the back to get to your SD card? REALLY??
And NO charger included? How low can you stoop?

That said, it really helps that I am not a Nintendo fan,
and the only game I actually cared about is probably Animal Crossing.
I sure wouldn't mind a bigger screen, but it's not worth it. So no thanks.

Plotting villagers is a bit quicker because the New 3DS can boot games to the loading screen quicker.

Wow, this is actually pretty upsetting. :/ I wasn't planning on getting the New 3DS anytime soon, but this honestly scares me away from it even more.

Well, in addition to the placement of the game cartridge slot and the stylus... just why?? I feel like I'll accidentally pop out the game cartridge with the edge of my hand while I'm playing...

In all honesty, it really isn't that bad. I feel like you would have to be trying to pop out the game.

So the WiFi doesn't work, or you can't access the WiFi from ACNL while being online?

There's no WiFi switch on the actual console, so you can't toggle the WiFi without going to the Home Screen. However, you can't go to the Home Screen when online in AC.

Thanks everyone for all your input! If I would have know before I got it, I would've probably not blown 200 on it. Plus I was super unhappy about color options and settled for red (Target had none that were all black). The SD card position does annoy me a lot since now I have to unscrew everything and then rescew it. The cartridge slot is alright, I have had a game pop out while laying on my side, but that could be just because of my position.

I can see how the N3DS can be very annoying since it cant turn off wifi easily. I for one, have the 2ds which has the same problem but I just started on ACNL so i cant tell how annoying trading will be. If you're going to trade maybe start a thread which has a list of trustworthy people to trade with. That would be great so we wouldnt be trolled or anything like that. And yeah the sd slot on N3ds sucks im glad i dont have it. i just flip up the side and it pops out.

I read it didnt have a wifi button on the side, just like the 2DS hasn't so it is one of the reasons I am thinking of getting a old 3DS when this breaks.

This is just another reason why I don't want the new 3DS.
I mean, there's people trying to make solutions, but none of them will work for me because, 1. I live with my family, everyone uses the internet! And 2. you can't just continually power down the system when you're online, it's not safe especially during the loading screen.

I was considering buying a regular N3DS (the faceplate compatible one, it's available in my region) because I heard it has larger screens than the old regular 3DS and I think it would be a better fit for me but the lack of a wifi switch, the cartridge slot location and the micro SD card make me reluctant to buy it.

I got the new 3ds and I personally love it! The lack of wifi switch doesn't really bother me that much because I rarely go to Club Tortimer or play over wifi, but I still have my old 3ds too in case I ever do feel the urge. I feel the new one is better for me than the old one was, so I guess it just depends on your needs and stuff.
