So are villagers, like... not worth diddly anymore?

Probably because the demand has died down and some people are still money-hungry! Saw someone trying to do an auction for Olaf and the starting bid was 30 NMTs!! NH blew the economy out of the water

I don't agree with selling villagers. :(
I don't agree with selling them for real money, that's absurd (and I think Nintendo said it's against ToS or something, but IDK if they actually do anything to punish people who do it). But there's not a lot I'm spending IGBs or TBT on (as opposed to real money)... so if someone else has a villager I want that's moving out, and I have extra IGB/TBT, and they need some... why NOT make a deal? I've bought two villagers like that already and am quite happy I did.

But, anyway, I think demand is just down a lot. When this game was brand new so many people were RACING to get the newest, coolest villagers. Now, most of the people who were in a rush... well, they have them. Or they lost interest. Timing plays a big role, too, especially on this website (since it's not as active as some, but I prefer it because the community is so pleasant). I've seen the same villager sell for a wildly different price the night before vs. the next morning. I've even seen people spend a bunch on a villager... only to later see the SAME villager listed as free, only to get voided 'cause no one takes them up on it. A lot of it is just getting lucky with finding the right person at the right time. Especially since you can only move in villagers that way every so often- I think the market would pick up a bit if there was an option to kick villagers out when inviting from someone's island, similar to inviting from the campsite.

That's another thing. Some people seemed to think the economy for villagers was indefinite and would always be a reliable way to make money/NMTs and every villager was worth their weight in NMTs. Not even close. The market was over the top to begin with and it's starting to level out now, and there are some people who refuse to admit that. That makes the market even MORE confusing.

I love Olaf but he is very unpopular and nowhere worth near over 30 NMTS! I was giving him away for free and no one wanted him. It's just kind of stupid to sell unpopular villagers for inflated prices

Demand may also be going down as people are finding new methods to get villagers like the campsite cycling method. Why pay for a villager when you can get it for free?

I guess it’s because they don’t want to spend more time than they have to, looking for them or they have already spent a lot of tickets and time looking for them and they want to be done villager searching. I ended up buying Raymond from someone with a mixture of currencies - tbt, igb & nmt. I realize that I could find him for free and that maybe the search for him would have been more rewarding and fun - since I’d get to meet new villagers if I fail to find him, but I thought he was worth the investment and enjoyed trading with the person who ended up selling him to me and am staying in touch with them as well. I had the currency and had nothing else I wanted aside from him, so, why not? sure it took some of the fun of searching for him away just like the amiibo cards did, but instead I gained a really good trading experience and met someone really nice that I hope to repay the favor he did for me one day and I still am enjoying the villager. :)

Yah, there are very few villagers that will EVER be able to get that amount. But, like I said, some people either really don't understand the market/concept at all, or are just VERY optimistic and a tad greedy.
I'm more inclined to give villagers away, but some of my nicer ones (like Julian, who's free to leave whenever he wants to at this point) I'm hoping to get a handful of NMTs for. I'm not going to ask for hundreds or anything extravagant, though- even if the right person might be willing to pay that much!

I feel like you shouldn't ask for NMTS unless the villager is more popular... asking for 5-10 for a villager like Gayle is fine, but some people need to recognize how unreasonable it is to do auctions for unpopular villagers :/

Agreed- hence, why I didn't even think to ask for any for, say, Chevre. But I'm hoping to get 5-10 or so for Julian.

Frankly, the people who want to try and auction unpopular villagers... honestly, most of them learn their lesson quick enough when no one ends up bidding on, say, Candi (who I like well enough, but I have yet to see anyone seeking her). But it does suck for those who genuinely WANT those villagers, though, and they see one up for grabs... but they can't afford it. And it ends up getting voided because no one who wanted it could.

I have to say that the demand isn't there anymore. :(

I just recently sent poor Maple to the void because no one wants her. We are at this point mostly completed our dream villagers.

I would see demand on unwanted villagers though.
