A friend and I are creating a site. So far, it's coming along great.

Here's the premise:

People can add their independent music from their band(s) onto the site. Basically, each song has a short little description, album name, length, genre, link to band's website, and a link for both a video and the download. People then can either 'plus' or 'minus' any particular song to help its standings. Obviously, the more pluses a song gets, the better it is ranked. It's a great way for new bands and musicians to get recognition and their start. It's also a great way to discover new music as well.

So everything is in the works, and the link will be posted here when it's ready for beta. Any ideas for the site?

(Oh, and the name we're using is 'Indie Ranks'. We'll start with a sub, but if it takes off, we'll buy a domain.)

sounds like a good idea... a few people I know are in bands and are really good.... I could tell them about it. In fact, I could get my brothers band signed up.

but yeah, cool idea.

Huh, sweet. Would this be limited to certain genres (i.e., rock) and strictly bands-only, or would you accept various genres and solo musicians?

No limit to genres; and you can be a solo artist or a band, either is fine.

Sweet. Once you guys get started, let me know.

;)

Is there anything out there like that? I haven't heard of one (then again, I haven't looked). But, if there isn't, this sounds like it'll be a hit.

Good idea. D:

There's something similar out there called "iLike", but frankly, there's no "plus" and "minus" option, so this might really be the first of its kind.

I hope it takes off, Fabio. : D

It does sound like a good idea, but how will you play the music?

I suggest using Flash like YouTube does.

Yeah, using Flash is a good idea. I'm pretty sure that's what iLike does, too.
