Smash Bros Smash Bros. 3DS/Wii U Discussion Thread

I was going to give this long response saying that it's still fake, then this has to happen. Ugh. Well, still calling fake. It uses some of Nintendo's characters, that's why it's copyrighted, not because it's the real roster or whatever.

no, pufflekirby, shshshshshshshhh

it's real

just accept it

You guys: Berry, come to the dark side... we have cookies....
Me: NEVER!

Does anyone feel bad for Sakurai? I mean the guy has significant health issues and puts so much of his time and effort in to this game and he's made it apparent he hates leaks (hence no more Subspace Emissary) and this guy comes out and leaks so much just to get some small recognition and I feel so bad for Sakurai.

Yeah it's really sad for a game you're trying to keep in secret, only for it to get leaked onto the internet minutes later.
That's what happens when you have an anticipated game on your hands.

No proof photo, but Leaker said Mewtwo, Mach Rider, Impa, Dixie, and Ridley are unlockables.

Don't count out Ridley just yet.

I heard differently. That the final 5 slots are Lucas, Ice climbers, Wolf, Snake and can't remember the last. Unless another row is going to be added.

And I missed the leaks before they got taken down. D: But I read that Bowser Jr's colour changes are the koopalings which is the biggest reason I want this to be real.
LARRY KOOPS! =D

Ludwig's my favorite personally c:
It's quite suspicious that Nintendo had the vids taken down. Either it's real, or Nintendo's cracking down on a well made copy.
I do hope Wolf stays as well :3

I thought that they were gonna be DLC er whatever haha.

I heard that some of Olimar's alt skins are Alph. If I'm not getting Alph as a character, this is the next best thing I guess.

I read that from the same source that said Bowser Jr will have alternate costumes for the Koopalings. I wish we got one for all five captains, or six, including the President

Shulk's render is the same as on the roster as in the video. But his moves seem to be very similar to Marth's. Three Marth clones?

- - - Post Merge - - -

I'm surprised nobody has said this yet.

People are already complaining that 5 is too many Mario characters, so why would there be a 6th?

Also said this before, but almost ever reason for it can be disproven, but disproving anything against it is difficult or impossible.

One last thing, only 14 more Pictures of the Day before it comes out in Japan. IT'S GETTING REAL!!!

So they're not going to add another Mario representive because people are complaining? People have been complaining that there's no Ridley or return of Mewtwo yet they're not present. Just because people are complaining it doesn't mean anything.

Leak 1: Why is Bowser JR in his koopa clown car? Why not use his paintbrush instead? Plus, he isnt showing us the bottom screen.
Leak 7: That went straight from brawling to the home run minigame?!?!!?
Leak 5: Ok this seems like it's true... but why was it so short?
Leak 3: It looks like BJ has falco's moveset???
Leak 6: Shulk looks like he has Ikes moveset.... and Ganondorf looks just like he did in brawl and for a secont it looked like the bottom screen moved into the top screen a little???
CONCLUSION: I think its a brawl hack.

Are you being serious?

1. Being in his clown car doesn't mean it's fake or a brawl hack. It'd only make sense if his alternate costumes were the koopalings as rumoured.
2. It did. That doesn't mean anything.
3. We had almost 2 minutes of footage.
4. I think Shulk has more of Marth's moves.

but in the rost pic isn't any lock .-.

Brawl didn't have any locks on some characters and, correct me if I'm wrong, neither did SSB64

A lot of things can happen between beta and final games. Different HUDs and whatnot.

Then get ready. Let's see how many bells I'll get for this.

Well they made a move set for Captain Falcon and he only drives an F-Zero car
Quote from SmashWiki
Super Smash Bros. was initially developed by Masahiro Sakurai and Satoru Iwata in their downtime, in a form titled Dragon King: The Fighting Game (格闘ゲーム竜王, Kakuto-Gēmu Ryūō), which lacked Nintendo characters. Sakurai, however, felt that the game could not provide the proper atmosphere on a home console without Nintendo characters, and they were soon added and the game was redesigned and renamed. Only four known images of Dragon King exist; no known video footage or working prototypes are known to exist.
Captain Falcon's moveset is based off of the original fighters. They wanted to keep some form of the original and he didn't have a good moveset, but was similar to the original characters, so that's how he came to be.

This is real. And ROB was an accessory, yet they gave him a moveset. Pac-Man ate dots. They gave him a moveset. I'll admit, I'm not okay with the dog being in the game, but they'll find a way to turn him into a fighter. As for his relevance, maybe it's that he's irrelevant; Sakurai seems to like throwbacks to retro times. ROB came with Brawl, and he wasn't relevant, and now it's the Dog for SSB4.

The 1 thing that makes DHD way different from those 2: he's never been playable. R.O.B. was playable in MK DS and Pac-Man was obviously playable in his game. R.O.B. was an accessory, but at least he did something (playing the game is a pretty big thing). Pac-Man has had so many other games where he did something other than eat dots. Heck, he has his own T.V. show! When Duck Hunt Dog's Hunts becomes a T.V. show, I'll accept I. Or at least when he has a bigger role in a game other than laughing at you.

I also read the full story of the leak on SmashWiki, and it's actually pretty interesting.
Anything bolded is anything I added.
On August 19, 2014, a user created a thread on 4chan's /v/ imageboard with a photo containing the character icons of all previous Smash characters and revealed newcomers, asking who people think will get cut. Later on, a different user created another thread, with the aforementioned user's photo, but modified with never-before-seen character icons on most of the unannounced veterans, including Dr. Mario, who was cut in Brawl, along with never before seen icons of new characters that haven't been announced, who were Shulk from Xenoblade Chronicles, Bowser Jr. from the Super Mario franchise, Dark Pit from Kid Icarus: Uprising, and the Dog from Duck Hunt. In addition to this, there was a red X over the veterans without the icons, signifying they have been cut. These cut veterans were Squirtle, Ivysaur, Lucas, Wolf, the Ice Climbers, and Snake. Curiously, while Mewtwo did not have a new character icon, it had a ? over it instead of a red X, leaving its status unknown.

Later in the thread, a second leaker, with the name of "Mother****ing Leaker", (Censoring for the kids) posted two new images, one showing a nearly full view of the Duck Hunt Dog's render, showing it will fight alongside a duck, and the other showing the character select screen containing all the characters implicated in the OP image. A third different leaker would then post five more images, which showed fuller renders of Shulk, Dr. Mario, and Bowser Jr. (which revealed him being inside his miniature Koopa Clown Car), a customisation menu where the player can select either the characters within the game or Miis, and a stage select screen, showing off many stages that have not been announced. After these images were posted in the thread, the "Mother****ing Leaker" (More censoring) would then post a list claiming the following characters to be DLC: Lucas, Wolf, the Ice Climbers, Snake, and the Chorus Men implicated by the Gematsu leaks. However, the leaker would later admit on Smashboards that he made the DLC list up to catch "copycat leaks" and "to have a little fun", but maintained his leaked images were completely real.

After the 4chan thread was closed, a fourth leaker, with the name of MasterLinkX, posted three new images on GameFAQs, which depicted an ingame shot of a team battle with Shulk and Lucina against Ganondorf and Charizard on Yoshi's Island, and the result screen, depicting one of Shulk's victory poses, and a fuller and much clearer shot of Ganondorf's new render.

The supposed source of the images is unknown, as the leakers never disclosed where exactly the images are supposedly from. However they are believed to come from footage that was sent to the ESRB for review in order to decide the game's rating, as P1's username in the images was "ESRB0083", and the lack of a gap between the top and bottom screen images shows they are not being displayed on an actual 3DS unit. (The gap thing was going to be another thing I was going to bring up.)

Interestingly, these images are consistent with a prior prominent leak on Smashboards, known as the "Ninka/Vaanrose leak". (Never heard about it.) Prior to E3 2014, a Smashboards user by the name of Ninka Kiwi posted that he knew a friend who was playtesting Smash 4, though he did not divulge any specific information, other than Mario and Charizard having new palette swaps, with Mario in particular having a new blue costume (which later turned out to be correct). Later on in July, Ninka would come forward with new information, which included the following; Lucas, Wolf, the Ice Climbers, and Snake being cut, while Shulk, Dr. Mario, Dark Pit, Bowser Jr. in the Koopa Clown Car (with all seven Koopalings as alts), (I'd be fine playing as Iggy as long as it said "Iggy Koopa" instead of Bowser Jr.) and the Duck Hunt Dog being new characters. While being initially disbelieved and seen as too outlandish, a friend of Ninka who gave him the information, named Shun, contacted a Smashboard user by the name of Neo Zero, who revealed to him that he got the information he revealed to Ninka from his own friend, and revealed that his friend recreated and posted two of the new palettes on imgur, before E3 2014. (Too many people involved, got confused.) While this was going on, an apparently completely independent source posted a leaked newcomer list on 4chan (containing Shulk, Chorus Men, Mewtwo, Ridley, Dixie Kong, Duck Hunt Dog, and Bowser Jr.), (8 more newcomers before release? (Didn't Sakurai say that we're getting near the end of newcomer videos?) containing the two characters unique to the, at the time, completely disbelieved Ninka leak. In addition to this, a person in the Smash community known as Vaanrose, came forward to Neo Zero that he knew a friend who knew someone who worked at Nintendo of America's offices in Redmond, Washington, who disclosed to him that Robin, Bowser Jr., and the Duck Hunt Dog were playable. With the screenshot proof of prior knowledge of the new palettes, and these new independent sources backing up a completely disbelieved leak, the people involved publicised this additional information legitimising the leak in a thread on Smashboards. (More people, too confusing. uwu)

Since the screenshots were first posted, they have spread to several websites and been the subject of much debate. Many have claimed the images to be falsified, citing the questionable placement of characters such as Yoshi, Dr. Mario, Dark Pit, and Lucina on the character select screen, the lack of separation between returning and new stages on the stage select screen, the similarity of Shulk's face in his render to that of Little Mac in a previous screenshot (suggesting it was used as a base for a photoshopping attempt), and other similar inconsistencies. Those who believe the images to be genuine have pointed out the presence of obscure UI details consistent with those seen in the E3 demo (including a rare graphical glitch on the bottom screen character renders), the inability to source the renders used on the character select screen, the presence of details that were only very recently revealed at the time (such as Meta Knight's new render, which was less than a week old, and Brinstar, which had only been shown half a day prior), and the stage select icon for Tomodachi Life featuring an apartment design that was not present in any past screenshots but appeared at a different angle in an image from Famitsu magazine that came out the day after the leak. Despite heavy debate and analysis by both sides, no one has been able to definitively prove the images to be real or fake, leaving their legitimacy inconclusive as of now. A thread detailing the arguments against the leak, and their counters, is being maintained on Smashboards.

Another point of debate is if the screenshots, if real, depict the entire playable character and stage roster. The seemingly strange placement of certain characters and stages, the conspicuous empty space on both, the lack of heavily implicated characters such as Mewtwo and the Chorus Men, the seeming over-saturation of past stages, and the question mark over Mewtwo in the original leak image lead many people to believe that there are more characters and stages that were not unlocked at the time the screenshots were taken. To compound the confusion, the leakers never stated if it was the full roster or not, with one of them, MasterLinkX, flatout stating on Smashboards that it was not, and the Smashboards mods investigating the leak being unable to come up with a conclusive answer. However, other observers who believe the leak have maintained that it is likely to be the final roster, citing that the character placement is sensible and complete looking, and that MasterLinkX cannot be trusted, as he refuses to give more information, while also having admitted that he attempted to sabotage his leaked images to create doubt in the leak and halt their spread (such as by photoshopping "disabled" in one of his screenshots to read as "disablad"). (If you don't want people to doubt it, don't point out the errors in your OWN picture.)

Video footage consisting of over a minute of total gameplay was leaked onto YouTube on August 25th by a user named Izat True. The gameplay shows the same scene of Shulk, Lucina, Ganondorf and Charizard on Yoshi's Island, as well as several scenes of Bowser Jr. fighting on Battlefield. This confirms at least the information regarding those clips as legitimate and solidifying the claims of Shulk, Ganondorf, and Bowser Jr.'s playability. The screen also transitions to a Home-Run Contest video instantly at one point, reinforcing the claim that the video is captured from video footage submitted to the ESRB for review. The videos of the leaked footage would eventually be taken down later that day due to a copyright claim by Nintendo. Another set of screenshots posted the same day confirmed the leak.
This now seems... believable. Not saying it's real, but there's a few points going for it. Before reading this, I thought Gematsu was still more believable than this. (Has he said anything since Robin's reveal?) I still think Gematsu has some truth. Heck, I think everyone thought Shulk was in Smash just because of it.

One last thing. (And I mean it) Why was only Battlefield shown to be played? He had all of the other stages to play on. Why aren't there pics for those stages?

I'll listen :) I like hearing that type of stuff~

Here's my two cents:
I'm a bit intrigued at how Nintendo took the videos down. Like PuffleKirby said above it could be because there are copyrighted characters in it... But the same thing happened with Pok?mon X & Y several weeks before they were released. I don't know if anybody remembers, but an Instagram user started posting photos from X & Y a few weeks before the games were released. When I finally heard about it and went to go check it out, it turns out Nintendo basically forced the guy to take the photos off his Instagram. My point is is that since Nintendo removed the videos within a few hours of them being posted, chances are they're probably more real than we think they are. I just don't see why Nintendo would take down a very well made fake 'cause there are still plenty of Smash Bros. vids on YT that HAVEN'T been taken down. Plus, the whole thing with the Tomodachi Life stage completely amazes me.

Shulk being similar to Marth though... I'm kinda disappointed.

Do you have a source for Captain Falcon's moveset?

DHD did do something, he laughed at you. He's a character, he's part of a game, he's likely to be playable in SSB4. Are you really dismissing this as fake because DHD doesn't have a TV Show? DHD is an obscure character yet a memorable legacy character. Despite this I don't want to be throwing dogs off a stage. Imagine PETA.

They played on Yoshi's Island. Also I saw on a video posted a few pages back the leak confirmed a stage a day before it was announced (I think it's the Tomodachi Life stage? I'm not sure.

We'll find out in less than three weeks I personally cannot wait. I gotta feel for Sakurai though. Poor guy hates leaks. I don't care if it is fake or not but I want Bowser Jr now even if I didn't like him beforehand.
