Are there any items in any villager houses that have not been available to buy or make yet? If so, would be a good preview of future updates

No, they only have in their houses what's available in the game from launch, before any updates etc. I thought maybe eventually there might be an HHD update that allows you to decorate and customize their interiors.

I'd love that!

But, no, they only have things that were available from the start... which is kind of a shame. If nothing else, Marina deserves a mermaid home. Instead of a weird chocolate home (I love her, but MAN do I wanna start her house over from scratch )
