Silver & Gold Axe Question

I was wondering if one has to get the Silver Axe from the Island Shop BEFORE one can get the Gold Axe from Leif. I've been buying saplings like mad, but I don't go to the Island very often. I'm wondering if they're sequential. Anyone know for sure?

I believe You just need to buy 50 Saplings/ Cedar/ Regular tree saplings and then he will give you one!

It doesn't matter. You can get a golden axe, probably much sooner than when you find a silver axe on the island.

The Silver Axe appears randomly in the island shop.

You don't need to get them sequentially, but if you want to have patterned stumps it's best to get them both so you can do two hits with golden unbreakable and then the last hit with the silver to make the patterns. Because even though the silver is stronger than the regular it still breaks after a while.

Well, you definitely can get the golden axe before the silver axe, because I just got it. Thanks for the replies
