How many characters do you have? Why did you make as many or as few as you have?
I really like making other characters because then I can decorate more rooms! However, isn't it annoying to have to play as them everyday to check their mail and keep them from getting a bedhead?

How do you guys keep motivated to play as your side characters? Where do you put their houses in your town?

Most people make side characters, so they can store QR codes. One way I was able to keep myself motivated to play with my side character in my last town is that I came up with a really interesting theme for his house -- he was going to run a New Age store -- and I wrote a love story between him and my mayor. I even gave them a daughter, and it definitely made me want to play more and find ways that I could express how much they loved each other through the house decor.

I dont use side characters unless Im trying to plot reset, but I usually just end up deleting the character after Im done.

I have two others, I use them to hold my paths and extra items. I also sometimes play with them for fun because it can be neat to hear what your villagers have to say about your mayor behind your back. :P

I've also been decorating their houses to fit my town's decoration, so it's an added incentive to play with them. When I was unlocking GracieGrace I used them to get extra themes to work on. I also sometimes play as them to make extra bells and be able to work in the cafe or request KK songs more than once on the same day.

I guess it's up to your individual preference. If you don't have any need for side characters, you don't have to get them. If you do need them for patterns and such, you don't necessarily have to keep checking their mail or worry about them getting bed hair.

None. I don't have any because I don't feel the need to have them. I used to have all 3 in my previous town, but after unfortunate things I'm STILL not over (grr) I decided in my next town I would only have one side character. I upgraded them both to a second story, left room, and basement. I decorated them all slightly. My side character couldn't be further from my mayor. My side character is fancy, rich, etc., while my mayor is casual, struggling, etc.

I have three side characters. Like Hypno KK, I use them for extra storage, requesting songs, fashion checks, and other tasks. I also have each of their houses decorated in a way that fits the town theme, but can give me a chance to play around with more furniture pieces.

It's all in the way you like to play. I like having the extra human characters, and I've created 2 female and 2 male, so it's all balanced, but I can see the appeal of not creating more and only having your mayor in the village.

I have none right now but i'm planning to:

Mayor Jessica of Oakwood

Jeremy - his house is a cafe because he works there and lives with Jessica, he has orange messy hair and green eyes wearing a chef outfit, He really likes Jessica

Mike - Grumpy Hotel owner, black messy hair with blue eyes and wears a random outfit that looks fancy XD

Bella - Spa owner, really kind and sweet and likes Mike. Her hair is light brown and she has brown eyes, her hair is in a bun.

Jessica - Mayor of the town, has dark brown hair and green eyes. Her house is just like an average house and she wears a brown outfit. she is good friends with Jeremy and Bella.

I have two female side characters. One is used for land paths and the other for water paths. I also like to decorate their houses so I can display more furniture.
