Hi! I'm currently debating on whether or not I should restart my island. I'm already pretty far in, I've unlocked terraforming and have spent over 115 hours on the game. I just started to realize how much I hate my layout tho. The resident services building is way too close to the airport, and I'd like to change my island and character name. I have already spent so much time on this island tho, and I currently don't have an online subscription so I can't get anyone to hold my stuff. What should I do?

I had 300 + hours and I had the same problem, the services building didn't align with my path at all. Tbh starting from scratch isn't too bad, but it takes a while. There's also the free week trial of the online service if you haven't used that yet. If you use that someone could hold your items ^-^

I know a lot of people are in the same boat! It might behoove you to pay for a single month of nintendo online just so you don't lose all of your stuff. You'd have to weigh the benefits of that! If you don't end up restarting maybe move your buildings to the beaches and flatten the island so you can start fresh! There's loads of resources online about how you can tackle close airports and stuff.

I only recently restarted a 650+ hour island. It’s more because of I was so bored with my previous one that I barely played the game anymore. I wanted to change my aesthetic but it’ll take so much bells and time to completely destroy and re-terraform so I just restarted instead. I don’t regret it one bit. I regained interest on the game and I like this island better than my previous one.

I would be terrific of losing progress. All the nook mile achievements. The cataloging. All the inventory.

Do you anyone IRL that plays? You can still transfer with local connection. Maybe ask them to help.

I had actually almost finished my island when I went ahead and restarted. The airport was too close and I had double south facing rivers that caused issue as soon as I placed down my shops. I didn't have the airport color I wanted as I didn't know about the colors coinciding with the Nook Miles items at the time.

It took me three days of hard work and TT to get back terraforming but it was worth it to me.

Honestly, paying for the full year is totally worth it and will cost way less in the long run unless you're ONLY using it to have someone hold your stuff. So many useful things have come from my having a subscription and it's definitely worth the small amount you end up paying. I think it works out to like 2 bucks a month if you get the year.

I think 100 hours or so is not too far in so if you are already unhappy with the layout then I would say go ahead!

I had about 300 hours when I decided to restart my island. I was having the same feelings as you and it was making me not want to play at all. BUT I did move some stuff over to someone else’s island so I didn’t lose everything. I’m very happy that I started all over and don’t regret it at all!

My significant other also had the “I don’t like this!” problem and eventually chose to reset. It was definitely the right thing to do, just gotta make sure you have thought enough about it. There’s no guarantee that you won’t regret it, but a fresh start can sometimes do wonders. If some things really bother you that much and working around them doesn’t suffice, it might be better to do it now than later.

I hope you find the right solution to your problem, OP! 🙂
