i've put 300+ hours into this town. i have the train station upgrade, my town has the perfect status, all my dreamies have been achieved... i'm bored with it, i hate my town fruit, i don't like where retail is, i don't like where the campground is, i don't like where some of my dreamies put their houses... and i don't really like the theme i chose for my town.

i'm so conflicted on what to do. my town is unfinished, but i don't even have the motivation to try to finish it.

should i take the risk and time travel, see if i like it in another season? if i don't like it then, should i restart?
should i wait a while and think about it more? because right now i'm really unhappy with my town. i really don't know what to do, i put so many hours into this town :(

I'm in the same boat ugh :c I have like 250 hours of playtime and all my dream villagers but back when I actively played I didn't care about placement of villagers/shops/the overall map at all. Now I'm back and pickier than ever, but still as attached as I used to be. Aaargh, I'll lurk this to see what other people have to say. Sorry I can't be of much help (':

I know not everyone has cash to spare, but if you're able to set aside $20 for a second cartridge, I highly recommend it. Starting a second town can breathe a lot of life into the game while leaving you with the freedom to enjoy your first town for what it is instead of feeling like everything has to be absolutely PERFECT, since it's your one and only chance. I have very much appreciated the price drop for New Leaf - I could finally afford a third town!

i actually just started my second town recently, and i think if anything it's driving me away from my first town more. i got a really nice map on my second town and i'm already very happy with it. it's making me upset that i already like it more and i've had my first town for 4 months more than my second town :(

Seeing as the retail and campground are permanent structures, i'd say just go ahead and reset. Even though you did put a lot of effort and time into the town, two of the things you don't like are permanent structures and if you're unhappy with the placement of them now chances are you'll be unhappy with them for a while to come. Also because of the fact they are permanent, you can't place them anywhere else so it's better you just start fresh and have a retail where you would want one rather than just having one that you regret the placement of. It's your town after all and no matter how much work or effort you put into it at the end of the day all that matters is if you're happy with it. :) It's something that you've created in your own vision and if it doesn't meet that then there's not much point of sticking with it imo. It's much easier to let go of if it's a town that isn't completely finished because then it helps you to know what you can improve on for the next map that you choose, as I had the same exact problem tbh. Good luck! :)

Don't reset (yet) unless you're already thinking of making a third town :P Seriously, don't. Your first town, even at the current state could be of help to whatever you're doing in your second town. It probably won't hurt if it's idle while you focus time on the second. Think about it a thousand times if you really want to reset.

i would say just put away the first town for a bit and let yourself enjoy the second, then.

if you're having a fun w it, there's nothing wrong with that and it is okay to not mess about with the first town for a while, just make sure you check if someone is moving before you leave - say no and then don't load it up sporadically. i've never had anyone move with that tactic of putting towns aside for 6+ months and no ramifications.

I can relate to the conflicted feelings! I have a perfect town in terms of layout and building placements. I've played it since the release and have never ever reset. It's quite a lovely town, but I'm just BORED. There is nothing to do anymore really. I would love to play actively again, but I can see myself getting very active a few weeks and then stopping and never getting back to this point really... ARGH!

I have a question.. how do you check how many hours you played for?

I was in the same boat a while ago. I had the town since 2013 and landscaped it completely after attaining all the PWPs. I had perfect town status and I was happy with all my villagers. I could have put certain permanent buildings in different places but they weren't that big of an issue. Even the campgrounds spawned in a good location. However, I was extremely bored playing that town. I already made another town that I completed (Tinytree) but I still play it every day and I don't get bored of it, so it wasn't about "finishing" the town. I also wanted to try and play a town from scratch without TTing. I spent several weeks sitting on it but I ultimately decided to restart... I even did a couple giveaways to warm me to up to it. I don't regret my decision and I'm having fun in my new town :D So if things really do bother you (and you're not that sentimental about your town) I say you should reset. You can always get your villagers back if you want, but I personally am completely fine with never getting my old villagers back since there's so many others I haven't had yet. I'm a serial resetter tho lol. I reset Tinytree's cartridge so many times before I decided to keep it.

If you're that unhappy with it's probably time to reset, especially since you're bored with the theme and all. If your second town is pulling you away from it maybe it's time to start fresh or maybe just put more effort into your second town? For me it's hard to really work on two towns at once. But if you have the time for a second town I say it's better to restart!

I have a question.. how do you check how many hours you played for?

You can check your activity log on your DS

I think it depends on how long you've been unhappy with your town. If it isn't a passing feeling, then you should restart. If you go on being unhappy and unmotivated, then you just won't play. You might even fall out of the Fandom a bit...and, like me, possibly, not play it for months on end until you finally get back into it and have to TT day by day to get back to the present without losing everyone! (Pant wheeze)

Whew. Sorry. Got carried away a bit there. Really, the fun of any game is achievement. If you're not achieving something, it's pointless. Once you've reached the end, there's nothing to do but start the journey over again. Think of the possibilities! Have you ever wanted to do something different? I want to do a gingerbread town some day, with all edible villagers. Maybe now you can do that one thing you've always wanted to do, get that one villager you never could because they had the same personality as one of your dreamies.

If you haven't felt this way long...then wait it out. Think about it. But really, if you hate it all this much, you can always get the amiibo cards of your dreamies and get them right away. Make pwps and fruit and town map your priorities.

I understand wanting to restart your game, I find it difficult finding the motivation to start all over. I haven't really started designing the actual town yet. I wanted to upgrade and decorate my house first. My town looks bad right now, lol. If you think you will stick to putting the effort in and not just give up I think you should go ahead and restart it. You will just be unsatisfied until you do, and you will feel great once you get it how you want it!

thank you all for your opinions! i've decided to keep playing my second town and waiting to see if i get motivation to play my main again. if i don't.... well, i'll get 20 million bells for selling it to tom nook. i'm still open to others opinions, so feel free to keep sharing yours!

I know you've already found a solution but i'd like to share my opinion as it might help you and others to look at it this way...Now I haven't played for years like some so this may be the reason I think this way but the one thing I did know when I started this game (coming to new leaf after playing city folk) is that the map is the most important part and if you aren't 100% sure about it, it'll bother you every single time you play. I reset probably about for 4 hours until I found a map I was satisfied with because I knew it was something that can't be fixed...however when it comes to villager house placements and undesirables in your town it's a different story because those problems can be fixed (for example you can move out and in via amiibo and path in the places you don't want houses and trade villagers or get them through amiibo cards) Reading your situation i'd honestly be so annoyed i'd reset but that's just me! I agree though you should just lay low with your first town and focus more on your 2nd until you get the motivation to play the 1st one again.
