i just reset and im looking for the town ive always wanted... i have really specific qualifications for what i want my town to be like including the building placement, rivers, grass shape, and town fruit. ive found a town that meets all my criteria, however the building placement is bugging me a little... if only the town hall was above the tree and retail was where the town hall actually i, it'd be perfect... i really don't like that my house is so close to retail, i wouldn't want it anywhere else. because of how close it is to being perfect, it's making me feel hesitant to keep resetting, but i can tell this will bug me continuously. should i just keep trying, will i ever get a town that is everything i want it to be? 😔 or should i just settle for what i got?

If I'm not mistake, there are 116 map shapes, 5 different native fruits, and 3 different grass shapes. Provided that each combination exists - that brings it up to a total of 1740 different towns and that's before building placement. Who knows how many different combinations exist in terms of where Retail, the plaza, town hall, etc... are located xD.

Personally, I would go with a town that meets your most important criteria or you might find yourself spending a very long time resetting to find a town that meets all of your criteria! I personally think that permanent building placement is the most important part of a town, and be extra careful of rock placement in your town. I was lucky and most of my unbreakable rocks ended up in places that didn't cause me problems, but the rocks in my girlfriends' second town are in places that are kind of problematic for her town layout.

thank you both. i think i'll keep the town for a few in game days and see how i feel... its just been a long long time of resetting..

I had certain criteria I wanted to, but don't be too anal about it. You will be resetting forever. Took me six months to pick a layout I liked. Granted I didn't try for a new one every day, but it still took a while. Try it out for a few days and see how things are.

thank you all for the advice, the layoutis growing on me a bit the longer i play in it, im just still a little miffed about how close my home is to retail...

I actually think you have a lot of room to work with. Build a line of trees between your house and Re-Tail and you may not notice the distance as much.

I was the very same way about my map. I had very specific requirements for just about everything: river shape, one beach, town hall color, location of plaza, location of retail, native fruit, etc. Basically anything possible, I had certain requirements. I'd pick a town that was "mostly okay", but a few weeks later would find myself restarting, back on the hunt for that "perfect town".

A few days ago, I finally found one that, while not perfect, I can say that I'm pleased enough to keep. (Mostly because my river shape/town plaza location requirements are so rare..) Even though every single thing isn't entirely perfectly, I'm learning to work with the things that are out of place for me, and I find the challenge enjoyable. I got my 2nd place fruit rather than the 1st place. And yeah, I'd prefer the town hall to be more north, and there's more ponds in the town than I'd prefer, but in the grand scheme of things, those shouldn't be huge enough issues for me to start over for. It's really up to you. If those little things are going to bug you, then keep looking. But if you are willing to work past them and turn them into positive aspects, then congratulations for finding your town

Yeah I'd keep it too. My current map had all my criteria for a perfect town except that I would have loved the Town Hall and Retail locations switched. One month later and I love it and am so glad I stuck with it!

I'd keep it if it's nice and the building placement is just a little off. You can always place your house and PWPs in a way that still looks nice.

Honestly, I'd be a lot more concerned about stuff like rock and ponds. That makes it so much more annoying to landscape and lay down paths since they can get in the way.

Another reason why I'm keeping the town I have. Despite there being 5 ponds, none of them are actually in the way! I can have my paths going from one end of town straight to the other end without any interruptions. It's so lucky!
