I currently have 1 3DS and mostly use it for Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Nintendo Badge Arcade. I have been considering getting a 2DS for a while, so my sister can play and (the real reason) so I can have a second Animal Crossing town. My current Animal Crossing town has been in existence since the first day New Leaf has been out, so you can see that I am not willing to simply reset my current town. If I were to do this, it would cost about 100 US dollars, which is quite a bit of money just for another copy of a game I currently own. There is also the option of waiting for the 2DS to lower in price. Should I buy one now, just wait till a good deal pops up, or disregard the idea all together? Now that I am writing this, I am planning on just waiting, since the only thing making me want to get one now is boredom. Still, I'd like to hear your opinions. :)

I have a 2DS, 3DS XL and New 3DS XL. I love them all. I bought my second copy of ACNL in April last year when I bought the 2DS. Having two towns is a lot of fun and I love not having to ask anyone for help if I want to move things between towns (like if I want to reset). I can also take Katie between towns and buy/sell turnips. If you have a town you already love, it's fun creating a second town that is completely different. Obviously, I think it was worth the money.

You could just buy a second copy of the game, that's what plenty of members here have done. You don't need a new system to do it.

You want a whole new system even though you only play like two games on the only 3DS you have now? Pufflekirby is right though. You can just buy a second copy of the game itself. You don't need to purchase another system.

If you only need it for a second town, then no. Just get a second copy of the game instead.

If you need to transfer items between games I'm sure someone here would be willing to hold them for you.

Now, if you're tired of sharing your own 3DS with someone else and want to get them something, that would be more reasonable.

Yes ... if you play more than an hour a day then you should get one.
The benefits of having a second console town are many.

1. If you need extra storage space you got it 24/7.

2. Turnips don't rot as long as you don't start up the town with a date and time before the last time you quit and saved.

3. Double free items on event days.

4. Twice as many opportunities to hit a high turnip price day.

5. Twice the opportunity to buy art, have your fortune read, collect fossils, shop stores, find ores, and so on.

6. A place to experiment and/or grow hybrid flowers. (biggest use for my second unit)

7. Can be set to any season for those seasonal items.

8. a safe place to invite friends you are not so sure about.

If the $150 new price don't scare you off you can always buy used from ebay or craigs list.

I wouldn't bother if I were you. I play the 3DS a ton and for a good variety of games, have two systems (due to upgrading to the N3DS XL), and don't even touch the old one anymore. Even when I had multiple copies of ACNL I still mainly played them on the one system. :p

I wouldn't to be honest, it would be a waste of money. You can just buy a second copy and play it on one system.

Honestly, the biggest reasons I can see to have more than one 3DS in your house is if both you and your sister play the 3DS a lot and you want to be able to play games at the same time OR if you both play Pokemon and want to trade/battle each other.

Like others said, you can have another town if you buy another copy of the game. You don't need another 3DS. Animal Crossing-wise, all multiple 3DSes would get you is being able to directly trade items between your towns. But you can find trustworthy people here to help you do that.

One thing you're forgetting that you ALWAYS NEED 2 (at least) for- StreetPass! If anyone lives in a remote area like I do, good luck getting those 1,000 tags without changing your Wi-Fi name to trick your 3DS! If it weren't for me, myself, and I, there's no way I'd have that 1,000 tag gold StreetPass badge. I also have a Japanese one because they're one, region locked, and two there are different events/items you do, and some of them are actually quite fun to do (Setsubun).

i have a 3ds and a 2ds, mostly for pokemon and animal crossing.

and lack of local friends T-T

You might as well get a second Nintendo 3DS family console...

I happen to own an original Nintendo 3DS, a Nintendo 3DS XL, a Nintendo 2DS, a New Nintendo 3DS and finally a New Nintendo 3DS XL and I particularly enjoy having the consoles streetpassing each other.

The Nintendo 3DS XL unfortunately has a broken hinge and I need to get it repaired at some point this year... :(

I also have two copies of Animal Crossing New Leaf. I have one town with all of my items that I wish to sell stored and I have my main town which has a perfect town status with all of the fruits available.

I have three 3DSes: an original, LoZ 3DS, a Retro NES 3DS XL, and the HHD N3DS. I suppose I technically have six, if you count my husband's systems as well, lol.

But getting a second system, whether under the pretense of giving it your sister, is an excellent investment, especially for us AC fans.

I actually have six Nintendo 3DS consoles as I remembered that I have also got one of the Limited Edition Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary Black/Gold original Nintendo 3DS as well.

I don't think you should, what I think is reasonable in a situation is to just get a second copy of the game.

Just get another copy of New Leaf if your main purpose is to have a second town. If you also want to play with sister, trade stuff, cycle villagers, frequently visit each other's town and all that, well, time to buy a second 3DS/2DS I guess.

you wanna buy a new 3ds just for a new copy of the game? just buy another cartridge or the digital from the eshop. the 3ds doesnt have that many great titles nowadays so if i were you, i will not buy a second 3ds.

i definitely wouldn't waste your money on another console, just buy another cartridge. I have a 3ds xl & a 2ds, and the only reason I got the 2ds is because it was incredibly cheap on ebay and I have no self control.

I wouldn't get a different console for myself - I used to have two and I very rarely needed both. My original pink 3DS and a limited edition Pokemon X&Y 3DS XL 'cos it was pretty. (Sold it half a year later cos needed the money and I never used it anyway so was just a waste of money rip) However, if more people than you will use it, I don't see why not, it's always more fun to play with other people and I'm glad I live with someone who also has their own.

But yeah, if main appeal is a 2nd town, just get a second cartridge.
