I've only just started playing New Horizons and last night I ran into Celeste for the first time, she mentioned looking up and finding shooting stars to wish on? I sat for quite a while several times watching the sky but I didn't see anything, are there any specific things you need to do in order to find shooting stars?? I'd love to start collecting star fragments but I'm not sure how!

Some meteor showers are very minor.
It's just a matter of being there at the right time.

The big meteor showers are announced by Isabelle at startup. :)

i've seen more shooting stars at random than when isabelle mentions them at the beginning of my log on. if it'll help, try looking up on youtube what the shooting stars look and sound like - they make a very specific sound that you can hear that will alert you to pan your camera up to the sky to wish on them. it wasn't until i had heard it a few times while seeing the shooting stars that i clued in that the sound was related ^^

also, if you're trying to make a wish on a star and your camera is already set, make sure you aren't carrying anything that can be used, like a shovel or a fishing rod. when you press 'A', instead of trying to make a wish, you'll just end up activating the item in your hands instead and could miss your opportunity.

i hope this helps. when i first started i had absolutely no idea what to look for or expect. c:

thank you!! I might have to start playing with my sound turned up higher!

You can still see a full blown one if you get lucky, know someone who has one (you can visit) or find someone in the trading areas that is hosting one for something.

as people already said, you can get the most stars on days when Isabelle announces a meteor shower, but otherwise you are also pretty likely to catch a few shooting stars on nights when the sky is clear / very few clouds. Listening for the chime is especially helpful on those nights!

^^ what i was going to say. It's awesome. When you find your weather seed, it knows every second of every star.
