Like alot of other people, I don't want my villagers talking about other people that I don't know, as they will continue to do this on a daily basis.

Some may find it endearing, but I find it highly annoying.

Ah, I see. Just a personal preference? I am definitely one of those that find it endearing because I always find it cool when a villager mentions a friend I used to know long ago and lost contact with (brings back memories ).

I've been in the same situation so I understood what you were feeling. I let someone I thought was a friend come to my town. I went into ReTail to sell something and she asked if she could take one of my blue roses. I said sure, sold my item and met her at the train station. She said she had to leave, thank me for the rose and left. I walked over to see which blue rose she had taken and realized I was missing 4 blue roses. When I asked her about it she said she thought she had typed "4" instead of "1" and since I said it was okay she took 4. I asked if I could have 3 back and she said she'd sold them to Reese. I deleted her FC and have been more careful since then. I would like to think your person was going to return the shovel but...

she sold them? wow. either a bad excuse or bad usage of blue roses. i dont have them yet,(love working on those myself instead of buying them) but if i had them i wouldnt sell the few i got.

and yeah i have been looking for her but i dont think shes here on this forum. i was thinking maybe i could write the wifi rating thing but cant. i usually only go to this forum, but i stopped playing for a few years and just started back. forgot about this forum and just searched for friends and found 2 places people were adding people and added a few people from there, but not anymore. at least if something bad happens here there is the wifi rating thing you could do. i have not personally had a problem with anyone on this forum though.

and yeah i have visited people that dont want me talking to villagers. not many, maybe 2 or 3 since i started playing, but i always try and follow rules people have set cause i love visiting other people and seeing how their towns is set up. even before going into town and shopping i will always ask if its ok to shop just in case.

In fact, one of the town rules I see in people's signatures here the most, is "Do not talk to my villagers".

I agree that the rating system on this site helps a lot with building trust. Usually I wouldn?t let people run around in my town while I?m not there, espechially now while I?m organising my storage and all my items are on the floor. I traded a lot with a girl on this forum in the past days and made an exception to let her stay and trade in my town while I was occupied, but that was only after we did a bunch of trades together and she had allowed me to stay in her town for multiple hours while she was at work (and all her important items were laying around as she had to create space in her storage for the trades).

Your story makes me more paranoid, but I certainly would be a lot more paranoid if we didn?t have ratings. I have to add that I never played online in NL before I joined here a few days ago, but I have only had very pleasant experiences and think, since I have been an active AC player for many years and therefore been a guest in many forums, that people here seem to be espechially polite and professional when it comes to online activities and trading. The rating definitely adds another motivation to be very polite because one might as well leave the belltree if they mess up and loose people?s trust.

I?m sorry that this happened to you and happy that you got it back. What someone said before about this being an accident, I could believe if she HAD her own golden shovel, dropped her items on the beach and accidentally picked yours up too. But as you already said, she would have either noticed it and told you OR have to check and then confirming she took it. So it definitely seems like the odds are against her in this case.
Hopefully this wont happen to you again, but I also think it would have happened earlier if you were not on this website but rather more on gamefaqs or reddit.....

I remember a few months ago I had a trade with someone here on TBT. So I was expecting 1 person... but 2 people showed up. The person that wasn't supposed to be there was wandering around my town and I didn't want to be rude and just leave the person who was there for an order pickup, so I stayed with her. When she left, I look around my town and the other person had picked my gold roses and I think shook my bell trees -.- I ended up erroring and minimized the damage to 1 or 2 gold roses missing. It still upset me because that person wasn't even supposed to be there and I honestly wasn't sure who it was :v

oh gosh that's so awful! and literally one of my mild fears of leaving my gate open. i started to delete friend codes to try to prevent this from happening

I don't believe she sold them. I think she didn't want to return them and then said she sold them. If she had returned them I may given her the benefit of the doubt. No one would sell blue roses that quickly. It's illogical.

In a way I'm glad you haven't found your girl on here. There are many truly nice people on here and it's a nice community so I'd rather someone like her not find their way here. On the other hand I wish you could give her a negative rating to warn others about her. I was very new to both ACNL & this forum when my incident occurred so I didn't feel comfortable leaving a negative rating. It all worked out though because not too long later I read that she TT'd without Beautiful Town on and all of her flowers died - hybrids included. I haven't seen her on here since then.

I normally let people talk to my villagers if they ask first. For me it's about the person caring enough to ask before doing something. I won't talk to other peoples villagers unless I'm there to specifically get sigs. I like to visit other towns so when I do I treated them how I'd like my town to be treated.

yeah thats one of the main reasons i made this post was because i didnt think she was on this forum, i wasnt entirely sure but i dont believe she is, and just incase she wasnt i could warn other people that might have her since i couldnt rate her.

I feel like she was going to try and borrow the shovel without you noticing or something lol but she obviously got caught. if she was intending to steal it she could have just deleted you/blocked you on everything and not gave it back.

The only thing I get super paranoid about is getting griefed by a player. I'd be 10x more mad if someone chopped my trees down than if they took an item or something ;o;
