screen recording programs?

hello hi there i would like to get back into making speedpaint videos on youtube but i dont have any programs
i used to use hypercam but its really crappy quality so i would like to upgrade. i tried camstudio a couple times before but that has failed me many times and i am not going to bother with it anymore so if you guys know any good programs please do share!!! thank you ;o;

i remember there was one called screen-cast-o-matic or something close to that, is u have a mac they have quicktime player as well
