this wasn't getting any traction over in trainstation so i figured i'd pop it over here.

i'm working on finishing up my town so i can finally publish it, but i'm trying to find a little inspo for some empty spaces i've got left. does anyone have any recs/D.A.s for sci-fi type towns that are modern-esque, spacey or technological or just are purely creative and kinda out there?

AND/OR anyone got any ideas for empty spaces in such a town? any cool things they're never seen done but would like to etc? :)

*ps, if you're reccing your own d.a., just lemme know and i'll send you back some commentary/a review! i love talking about people's towns. just also let me know before hand if you're good with/want critique

thaaaanks

I don't have any town recommendations, but for PWPs, I definitely suggest any of the illuminated ones. Also, the Round Streetlight is the most space-age like, to me, of the streetlights. I'd also recommend the Cube Sculpture. Not sure why, but it feels like something I'd have run into in an alien world that's ahead of Earth standards, like EN-II from Star Ocean 4. Solar Panels might be a good idea, too.

I wish there was a giant telescope PWP or something.

I have a star-themed town, but on the other side of time, so I use these paths. I think it's rather antique than modern. My paths tag on my linked tumblr should yield you other results as well. There are at least two or three other starlit paths!

I second MorningStar's mention of the round streetlights and etc. Especially the illuminated tower and cube sculpture. Try putting holly starts along your paths as well, I think they would really spruce up any color you chose! Otherwise blue hydrangea is what I use and it really makes the blue roses pop.

If you'd like some inspiration, my town is very much still in development, but my DA is:

Oh, forgot to mention, I would very much want critique myself if you visit my DA :)

I remember visiting one that was designed to look like the surface of the moon and they really did it. I think I had found it on tumblr but it was a long time ago and idk if it ever got updated. (Not very useful, I know)

^ Maybe you're talking about Fishburg? Its DA doesn't seem to have been updated after the update but *here's* a link to the tumblr.

Anyway, I too am actually very interested in ideas for a sci-fi/space/technology themed town. I've recently started working on one but it's a bit difficult to draw inspiration from existing towns since there don't seem to be many towns like that around.

Some ideas would be an excavation site with a stadium light, caution sign and drilling rig, or maybe a solar panel farm. You could make a park with illuminated PWPs or parabolic antennas, modern or round streetlights and a pile of pipes. These are some ideas I'm using for my own town but feel free to use them too if they're at all helpful. I also saw someone make a cool cube sculpture park. If your empty spaces are big enough, I recommend building several PWPs there. Makes it seem more impressive and industrial.

Overall it's a bit difficult to give ideas because we don't know what you've already done and what kind of spaces you're working with. I'm only just starting to landscape my own town but if you feel like brainstorming ideas, feel free to hit me up.

^^Yeah that one is it, glad you found it! Too bad it hasn't been updated...

Feel free to review my town! I love to hear ways of how to improve my town. <3

agreeee. i've got the rounds and the cube (my favo!) bc i think they look really nifty and unique. i've also got several of the illuminated ones and i love them, ha. sorta static but sorta not.

i would kill for a giant telescope tbh. that would be so cool! you could look closely at the stars! more interactive pwp! more spacey, less concrete pwp themes!

ah yeah, i know fishburg! :'))) i've been and it's suuuuper cool. what a commitment to a story, wow!! some rly cool ideas abt multiple pwp use in one area, mhmmm

it's really hard to find inspo tbh! i think you have to both be creative with your space bc the more industrial pwps are so huge and also just w the concepts bc there's no unifying theme to pull them together and make the town construction look seamless, so everything's gotta be more thought out. but your town sounds rly cool and i would love to see it ! i've rarely seen the antennas or pile of pipes used at all so that would be awesome. plus, i'm just a sucker for modern takes on towns tbqh :')

i really appreciate the brainstorm offer ahh, i'll pm you! esp abt seeing more of the spaces. i've got an up to date d.a. but am hesitant abt releasing it on the world in its infant state lmfao. thank you!!!

i don't mind the hydrangea, but i don't know that it's quite what i want for my town, just because i have a lot of mixed color use. i'll think about it, thanks!

yeah, i can see the antique more than the modern! i really liked how the metal and the fairy tale streetlamps looked w the town, tbh. also your map has a very interesting feel to it! don't see a lot of them like that and it's refreshing, especially as you've worked those bits into the town (rocks bordered in in the center of paths etc). the blue roses do match the paths and the atmosphere of the town well. i also appreciate that its set during a kind cloudy night as i think that enhances the look of the town too. also, lovely beach. i'm fair envious.

wrt critique, i think the feel of the town is a bit lost. it feels unfinished because sometimes the paths don't fully connect or there is a lot of empty space just left with mushrooms or sparse trees. some of the villager house positions make it hard to maneuver around, which just may be exacerbated bc of the lack of concrete direction or the paths. i think it has a lot of potential ! the solid rose theme and the villagers feel like they fit in with star stuff, but could use some more solid landscape and pwp work to make it feel cohesive and like it's full potential could be.

i hope you keep working on it! good luck!

Thank you so much! Especially for the critique. Yeahhh, it's quite difficult making everything feel cohesive... if only we could drag pwps around like in happy home designer. I've been thinking about which streetlight type to go with because I love both the fairytale and metal, but choosing one would probably make it feel more put together.

Thank you much for the feedback and kind words. I hope your town comes together nicely too!

Honestly, I don't see how this could look good without hacking

to each their own ! you've got to be precise abt it, is all. i've got sketches and spreadsheets and stuff. fishburg is a good example though, of accomplishing it, 200%

bumpsies again bc i am still interested in seeing towns :)
