Kinda boring... Spent too much money on the dress for the last one I went to, friends weren't there anyway and it was just loud music and sweaty teenagers who didn't know how to dance.
I find them boring.
I usually just follow one friend around for the whole dance. I don't want to be lonely, but I don't really want to talk to anyone new. omo
The elementary/middle school ones were fun because it was literally just yelling and singing and dancing and hanging with friends. High school ones for some reason were never quite as fun. Too much puberty. Nearly everyone at my high school had the same idea I guess. From when I was in Grade 10 onwards, pretty much all the school dances got cancelled because of poor ticket sales, including the semi-formal.
The prom was fantastic, though. The teacher chaperones who went said it was one of the most fun they went to. Most people stayed and danced right to the end.
I only went to my senior prom, showed up late and left early. It was pretty lame, but being with a small group of friends was nice; more fun was had eating dinner beforehand and partying after.
I went to one or two and they were always terrible. Everybody just moves off into their usual groups whilst they shout really hard to hear over the music with everything being over priced. Not to mention the teachers monitoring the hell out of everything and stopping any fun from happening. It's even more useless if you hung out with those people after school anyway.
Or when they try to make everybody dance *shudder*. There's a reason that I don't dance and forcing me to do so isn't going to loosen me up or increase my confidence.
Now that I'm older, I know exactly why it was lame...No alcohol. I go out regularly and have mostly the same experience, though it's suddenly great with a beer.
Didn't go to my 'prom' for largely the same reasons and don't regret it at all. I was glad to see the last of 99% of the people. Just hung out at a friends with some beer and games.
