Saved Data Risk

Heads up!
OH! I remember, when I set up my DS, they made it very clear not to create a new Nintendo ID, or else all data will be erased. You have to access the E-Shop and click to skip making an ID, go to settings on the E-Shop, and link your Club Nintendo Account. It was after that that I got all my data back. So don't make a new Newtwork ID
Thanks! :)

Do you have the SD card or is it in the system? If it's still in the system, I'm not sure if that will be wiped as well...

ACNL and its save data are on the SD card, so it'll act much in the same way as a cartridge game. The save data won't be erased because it's "another system", you can just continue playing. The most that can affect you is the time change, because there'll be at least a small difference between your current system time and the one you'll set when you get it back. I don't know how much that affects in ACNL, but I doubt it's a lot.
The guy said he will leave it alone in a bag in the box with my other 3DS content not being examined. I also have a back up save of my SD card before I handed it over.

Ok thanks, I am going to time travel back to the day I left it when I get it back.

Thanks for for help, both of you! :)

Your game should be fine, even if they do transfer your data to a new system.
Back in like September I convinced myself I needed a 3ds xl even though my 3ds was fine. I went to the store and bought myself a brand new shiny system. I transferred my data and all was good until I noticed a dead pixel. Instead if sending it to Nintendo, I just swapped it for a new system. It hadn't been a week since I transferred so I couldn't move my data to the new system. My new one had the same problem though and more. I was really unlucky. I needed up going through 2-3 more systems and then GameStop said they felt so bad they gave me the Zelda edition with no extra charge (since here it was $219 and a typical 3ds xl is $200) and it's lovely. I then called Nintendo and had my old serial number written down from my old 3ds and the defective original an 3ds xl and they did a transfer over wifi. I had my games and everything was finer just remember it have the SD card or the data backed up on your composer to transfer to a new SD card.
I wish you luck and if all go not too bright, let me know. If you are forced to restart then I have a ton of extra stuff I can give to help you get started :)

Thats quite a story, and good thing you had a happy ending.

Thank you so much for your offer. I'll keep that in mind. Thank you for your help. :)

I have another question. If my system is wiped, and have to start up the new settings. Do I leave my SD card which has my previous data use in the 3DS or not? Will it wiped the SD card by the new settings or something...? I can't remember how the set up goes on the 3DS again when you first get it.

Nope, just leave it in. You'll be fine

Anyway guys. The store rang me up today and said they are sending the 3DS in the morning to Nintendo to be repaired. It will take about 2 weeks or more and I will have to pick it up at the store when it arrives back. They will call me when to pick it up. However as I feared they might have to wipe the data which is likely, and they gave me the option if so happens and I said yes. If not, well there isn't much I can do. I can't afford a new 3DS at this moment and my friend is willing to buy my 3DS for $100 or more but my parents turned it down.

I am going to be crushed is any of my data is unobtainable. I really care a lot about my games, specially Animal Crossing! I really hope they repair it good. :(

I hope everything goes well!!
If anything goes wrong, don't hesitate to ask me for help <3
Thank you awesomeperson. That's an awesome help lol. But yeah, thank you for your support. :)

I hope so too. I know I'd be devastated if my ACNL game was suddenly wiped...

Here's hoping for the best!
Yeah.... I've been playing since July and I love my game. I play it everyday, and I will be brokenhearted if its gone. Thank you for your support too Reindeer. You've helped a lot.

Well, I think for most of us sudden erase of our towns would be devastating! I hope your 3ds will be quickly repaired and nothing will happed to your village!

However, if something would happen remember that we got great AC community here, that will help you recover anything! But stay positive, no point worrying in advance!

:o Oh, wow. That's so bad. :( You could try to transfer your game to SD card in System settings.

Thank you Minimumu. I spent over 1500 hours on my town and I love it to bits. :(

It already is. Thought I have heard if you have your console wiped and try and put your downloaded games back onto it, the console will reject them because there is no longer any proof of purchase.
However like Navi said here (http://www.belltreeforums.com/showthread.php?172135-Saved-Data-Risk&p=2916895&viewfull=1#post2916895), I should be able to get it to work with my iD.

For your Hard copies such as Pokemon, Don't worry! The 3DS now stores the data on your game card compared to storing the games on the DS/Dsi
but I'm not sure about Digital copies as the only digital game I have is Pokemon Link Battle XD

Technically, digidownloads with no NNID should be safe as long as you never linked one ... from what I understand consoles with no NNID have their purchases locked to the system. This is why if you wipe a system with a preinstalled game, like the Mario & Luigi Dream Team bundle, you should be able to reinstall a game after deleting it. I don't know if they changed that when the IDs were implemented, but since they still have preinstalled things I can't imagine they did. However since you have an ID you'll definitely be fine as long as you bought under that.

Odds are, if it's going to Nintendo, they'll just system transfer the data to an identical 3DS. That seems to be the quick fix for them a lot of times, because then there's plenty of time to refurbish the system. A system transfer would transfer EVERYTHING, including your eshop data, to the new system. I wouldn't worry too much - as long as it's going to Nintendo and you have your save backed up on the SD.

Hard copy games definitely save on the cart though. :3

Ok thanks variablenonsense.

I got Animal Crossing New Leaf as a free gift after I bought my 3DS in July. Although I had to download it using a code. It wasn't until December when I linked my 3DS to my NNID and has stayed linked since. Does that count?

My miiverse account has so many posts of Animal Crossing along with my Club Nintendo account having its redeem code for stars (I've used my Club Nintendo account for redeems with every game I have purchased). IDK if this counts for anything. When my friend lost his 3DS, Nintendo gave all his games back by checking his Club Nintendo account. I don't think he got his save data back though.

Ok. thats good. I know about the system transfer but I didn't think Nintendo would do that. The store that's holding my other 3DS accessories that came in the console box and my SD. They have shipped my console and charger today. I also still have a back up of my SD card before I gave it to them.
