So last night my 3DS broken.

Its a long story...

When I first received my 3DS on my birthday, a month after a dad purchased it, its controls and touchpad would glitch out. I remember when I first starting playing Animal Crossing for the first time, my character wouldn't stop running.... Contacting Nintendo they wanted me to send the 3DS in but I wouldn't due to I may lose my town. A week or so later the glitched cleared up contacting Nintendo again they said don't worry about it. From that moment on I could feel my 3DS was a bad egg. The one that wasn't properly made out of the millions. But what can I say, its only a feeling.

A few months later, last month actually or less my 3DS's charger starting acting up. I wasn't sure what it was but I was scared to use my charger. Every time I plugged it in the charger wouldn't charge the 3DS properly, sometimes it would, sometimes not. This really pickled me since I take high care of my 3DS. I then rang Nintendo up again and they told me to contact Simnet (http://www.simnet.co.nz/nintendo-repair-agent), note I live in New Zealand, to get it repaired. But everytime I tried contacting simnet they would never reply. Calling them would just let to them saying "We can't get your call at this moment, please check our website instead" or something like that. Not getting help even emailing nintendo telling me the same thing. I just carefully charged my 3DS since I use it very daily.

Now getting to last night, cleaning up my 3DS fall off my bed about a "foot" onto carpeting. Shocked I picked it up straight away and I noticed the charger input was looking funny. I couldn't tell if it was the input on the 3DS or charger or both. I thought that was it, a 3DS can't break from a tiny fall like that it should at less outstanding it safe enough. Not playing with it anymore. Note my 3DS wears a hard case, but I guess it landed on its charger point. But I knew for sure that was cause of this damage was the charger. Attaching my 3DS candle, it was the charger....but still unsure of the condition of the 3DS. Charging problems getting even worse, I needed action to be done now!

I then went to the store my father bought my 3DS from and they said under warranty they would repair it, finally!
The guy told me as I expected they might erase my system data. But he said he will let me know if they will, and special caution will be taken as much as they can to not remove it. He said it might not even come to that, he might be able to fix it at the shop with Nintendo's permission without even sending it to Nintendo but we will see.

Anyway, taking my 3DS contents and box. Taking care of my 3DS and charger to be fix, while holding everything else in care like my SD card.

The question I ask here what is going to happen to my Animal Crossing saved data? I care a lot about this game and I will be crushed if something goes wrong. What will happen if they have to delete the system data on my 3DS, how will it affect the game? Note my game is a download and on the SD so I know the file will be fine I hope. Backing it up on my computer as well before I handed it over. Will it reject the save data and erase it on the SD card if my 3DS's system data is erased? IDK how 3DSs act to downloaded games if you put them on another 3DS. I know if you use old saved data of your 3DS it will reject it.

Also what will happen to my cartridge games, not Animal Crossing (since its a download and my only copy), but Pokemon X...

Sorry for letting you reading this huge post, but thank you for your kindness.

I will be heartbroken if I lose my town, it means a lot to me...

I'm not familiar with digital copies. I personally hate them.
I prefer the actual item in my hand so no one can revoke it from me at anytime.

However, I don't think anything will happen to your cartridge games.
Since you have the SD card, which only holds Streetpass information concerning cartridge games,
all information including Streetpass data should be safe. Like I said, as for digital copies, I wouldn't know.

I wouldn't be too worried about it.
If it's being sent into Nintendo, they are very careful about saving data.
I sent in my Wii one time and they managed to save every file I had.

Thanks TaliZorah, this really helps my worries.

Animal Crossing is my only digital copy besides Denpa Men 2 because you can only get that in digital copy form... My Animal Crossing copy is digital because it was given to me free by Nintendo during an purchase event of my 3DS.

Yes! I wish you luck. I got my ds back from repairs, I lost all my Virtual Console game :(, but at least I still have Fire Emblem. Although the data is still on Fire Emblem, the DLCs are all gone.

Man, all downloaded games right? This is creeping me out now again....uh.... Did I make the right choice...
Thank you, also the DLC compared to Fire Emblem's DLC, I am not sure... They aren't very much the same in use of storage data of DLC right? IDK....

The games deleted were just some Kirby virtual console games. Fire Emblem, Paper Mario, and Luigis Mansion: Dark Moon (all downloaded) were there with all the data, except DLC .-.
But I'm still grateful

Oh ok, thanks. I wonder why the DLC disappeared.... and I wonder what will have to the DLC in my Animal Crossing copy and maybe Pokemon X with event pokemon and such if something happens... IDK if DLC is treated the same in those games. I have lots of DLC items are in my storage and all over my house in ACNL... IDk if it will be treated the same....

I understand where you're coming from New Zealand doesn't provide much Nintendo repair services smh, but if I were you, I would've taken the 3DS back to them when it first started to glitch out (since it's of course, under warranty) and probably swap the 3DS with another one :/

I don't know if this is possible, but if it is still under warranty, try and request to get a new 3DS as a replacement, then transfer the game data, and only the game data over there??

I was thinking the same thing. But I don't have money to get another 3DS, its 250 dollars here to buy one. I did ask that question and they said no since they would only do that within the first week of purchase, and that is impossible because I got it a month later after purchase.

Yes its still under warranty, I explained the whole thing and they understood. Its being repaired now for free and will contact me on Monday or later about its condition. It shouldn't be too bad I hope... Its only the charging point of view that's of problem.

About the start of it glitching out, yeah but at the same time I was scared to send it in. But when the time came, I got the courage but somehow it fixed itself. IDK why to explain that lol.
Plus I had to pay for the shipping...Nintendo...
When I did start glitching out again this time with the charging. It didn't get the best service as last time... they just told me to go to simnet, gave me there number and thats it. LOL.

You should know but the shop I got it from was The Warehouse. XD

At first I thought this was Creepypasta. Got freaked out >.<

-gasp- if you arrange things a bit you'd make a really good creepypasta ^~^! I'd read it for sure.

Now suddenly this has gotten off topic ;;

I would've thought that the charger was damaged then >_<
But I guess it's more complicated than that D:

Well I am not really sure, I have never really taken that much notice to the charger at times because its normally been it plugin in about 75% of its life. So I am not sure plus I have a bad memory. :/

I've spend a lot of stuff on my 3DS, I think around about $600 or more...

No need to worry. You have the SD card with you, with all the Animal Crossing data on it.

They said they might wipe the system memory, which includes stuff like profile and DSiWare. The system memory can only hold about 1100 blocks of data. Animal Crossing is around 6000 blocks.

So as long as you have the SD card, nothing will happen to your save file. If they wipe the system memory then all you need to worry about when you get it back is setting up the system once again (date & time, profile, wi-fi settings, etc).

Hope that eases your worries a little.

Don't worry, your DLC won't dissapear. It was only for Fire Emblem because the DLC in there are Maps/Stages. The DLC in AC:NL are items, not things installed into the game.

Ok thanks. So when I start up Animal Crossing again, it will be fine? Not thinking its another 3ds, the same 3ds?

Even if say it has been system memory wiped, and when I get it back and put the SD card in and have to do the settings again. Will the SD card be wiped? I can't remember.

Heads up!
OH! I remember, when I set up my DS, they made it very clear not to create a new Nintendo ID, or else all data will be erased. You have to access the E-Shop and click to skip making an ID, go to settings on the E-Shop, and link your Club Nintendo Account. It was after that that I got all my data back. So don't make a new Newtwork ID

Do you have the SD card or is it in the system? If it's still in the system, I'm not sure if that will be wiped as well...

ACNL and its save data are on the SD card, so it'll act much in the same way as a cartridge game. The save data won't be erased because it's "another system", you can just continue playing. The most that can affect you is the time change, because there'll be at least a small difference between your current system time and the one you'll set when you get it back. I don't know how much that affects in ACNL, but I doubt it's a lot.
