So I find something interesting about the villagers and people's love for different villagers. So I had Poncho right? He was a jock and he was meh but I loooove Kid cat. Maybe because he's a cat? But someone might hate Kid cat but love Poncho! Or for me I couldn't stand Flora but I adore Ruby but a lot of people love Flora more than Ruby..Do looks and animal types matter..?

To me, absolutely. I lothed Coach(Jock) so much. His big dumb head and his constant need to talk about his muscles drove me crazy.

I adopted Dom (also a Jock) and when he talks about his lil muscles and how often he likes to do patrol jogs I smile. He's cuter that's for sure. I might just love sheepies enough to overlook one of my least favorite villager types but something about Dom is just endearing and I can't help but wanna love him.

Yeah, appearance definitely affects how I "read" a villager, even if dialogue is exactly the same. I have Kidd and Raymond now. Both smug with the same sub-personality, but Raymond reads as sharp and sassy while Kidd reads as easygoing

It's an issue I've had with sisterly, actually. They shout a lot and have a low tolerance for conversation, so they can seem pretty aggressive depending on which villager. I didn't like Pashmina at all because she felt mean, but Phoebe and Plucky are cool - just very spirited

I just replaced smug Lionel with smug Marshal.... and I kinda miss Lionel? hahaha They're different to the point of being almost a different personality. Lionel was classic elegance and trying to be sophisticated... and Marshal just seems sort of like a snob trying to be cool? I don't know... not hating on Marshal, I'm sure he'll grow on me, but they're different. There's personality subtypes, so maybe it's that.

I had Apple in New Leaf and couldn't stand her "I'm going to be a pop star!" personality, but on Twiggy and Chrissy it fits? 😅

I'm pretty sure the general consensus is yes. People value the appearance a lot when it comes to villagers in this game. Hippeux is no different from Raymond when it comes to personality, but since he is"ugly" many people won't want him on his island. Now I'm not trying to bash on people who value their appearance because I'am guilty of this too, but this is just how most players are in general. If you want to take it further, this is how society is in general.

Yeah, different Villagers have different Vibes. Like Kidd looks like a Gentleman, Shep like a Bro and Rodney like a Creep.

Or with Jocks People don’t mind Hamlet, because he is a tiny and chubby hamster, so you don’t think much about it. But when there is an actual big Jock People hate them, because they seem super stereotypical. Except Teddy I guess.

It’s really about aesthetics and since we can only have 10 Villagers, some of them will never be that popular. Same Personality and Dialogue, so why pick someone you don’t actually like other than farming Posters and Pictures?

I would like to give every villager a chance, but I know for a fact, that I will not enjoy Diva or Gloria as much as let’s say Agnes or Freya. Just because their designs don’t appeal to me at all.

Of course switching villagers could always lead to new Dreamies or Villagers you like, but there is no way someone likes all the Villagers in this Game.

It was the same with Jacob. I found him on an Island and he was lazy. I quite liked his design and wanted to keep him, but then found out his house is a Dump. So ... what should I gift him? More Garbage? It’s just not possible to keep someone with this interior.

Yeah, but this game is different because humans don’t have the same six personality types and are vastly different - and don’t have the same sets of dialogue. The only thing that does differentiate the villagers in this game IS how they look. Reality is far more complex. Wanting to choose a villager for their appearance has no bearing on real life.

It just the typical personal bias. I like the Jock personality, but that doesn't mean I like all Jock villagers. In the end, their design is still what matters.

I'm new to Animal Crossing and this has been one of the most fascinating elements of the game to me--how the same personality type can have a completely different FEEL on different villagers.
Some of it is obviously superficial, but some of it really isn't. The animals do arrive with clothes, a catchphrase, accessories, a house. They have a few ways of telling you how to interpret the lines they all share.
But then you can tweak all of those things. You can give them new clothes and a new catchphrase and new furniture and sort of... make your vision of them the real one.
It's really interesting.

I feel like appearance and nostalgia is important to me, but personality is priority still.
