What's the main goal in the game?

Goal? What is this goal you speak of? There is a story, but it's a do whatever you want game.

Well, in Harvest Moon, the game is considered finished if you marry and have a child. Then it's called a New Game+, where you can do whatever you want.

Not this game, this game is 100% open ended, the game isn't considered finished when you marry, marriage in this game is just another feature, the only time you technically finish the game is when you beat the story and get the ending, but really not alot changes in-game afterwards, since you can still play and enjoy the game without even touching a single dungeon.

And you bought it already, so let me ask you this: Is the mayor still there? Or is it a different town?

It's a different town, but some of the older characters like Mist, Rosetta, Bianca, Tabatha, etc. eventually move over.
