What are some of your best tips for designing rooms in ACNL? Tips to make it look good, unique, not like a garbage tip, etc., or even room ideas, things that look well together, etc.

This probably won't be terribly useful, but for me it just depends on the theme I'm going for, if any. No matter what, I like to look at real interior designs to get ideas and inspiration, especially when I'm playing happy home designer. I also like to mix set pieces together instead of using an entire full set in a room, but that's just a personal preference!

Non-furniture items can sometimes really add to a room as well, like flowers, clover books, even mushrooms. I had a medieval themed house with a little kitchen and I had a few mushrooms in there. Items you can get from the thanksgiving turkey-guy, like sacks of flour and bottles of vinegar, those make for good decor too. I guess with the amiibo stuff now, though, there's a lot more little things like that to use!

I think busy/bright/colorful/designed walls and flooring look best with softer and more subtle furniture; and vice versa, soft/subtle/plain walls and floors look best with more eye catching furniture.

Buuut yeah. Unique and good looking rooms are mostly personal preference, imo. I take a lot of inspiration from real life.

Go to pinterest, there are sooo many cute pics of AC rooms in there, and also a lot of qr codes you can use, I found a lot of useful stuff in there.

I actually tend to get my room ideas from pictures of real rooms. I don't necessarily go for the color schemes in the pictures (in fact, I almost never do). I also try to make sure I have more than one "series" of furniture in a room, and once I max out my HHA points, I get rid of unnecessary things. For example, I take the beds out of what is going to be my living room, kitchen, bathroom, etc. I also try to pick a cohesive theme for the entire house, even if it's more obvious in some rooms than others. For my Mayor's house, it's going to be 'flowers', so there needs to be something floral in every room, no matter how small.

It may help to think of the character as a more fleshed out one. Figure out their likes and dislikes, their favorite colors, what the purpose of their home is. Is it even a home? Is it a store? An entire shopping mall with different sorts of stores? Is there a food court, maybe?

In my Mayor's case, The house is just a very large home for a single individual. She likes inviting villagers over, but only before a certain hour. Once night hits, she wants her privacy. As a result, the kitchen and living room have lots of seating for guests, but there's only one bed in the house because only one person will ever sleep there, ideally. Thinking about those kinds of things can help you decide on your rooms. People say limits shouldn't be placed on creativity, but I think that giving yourself limits actually helps you find more creative ways around something.

Pick furniture of a similar style like exotic and traditional and cabin. They all have wood in a good color range. Color is important. I put earth tones together not with pastel.
Add pieces that have pattern but don't make it all the things in the room. My main rooms focal point is a kokatsu with the green plaid. Little details add a lot of character. Use fish and bugs an plants too they add so much. Think of noise in a room. I have a room with two crickets. Another with a cricket and a frog. One with a drip pail and an odd clock and a lulliboid gyroid thingy. Hearths and for for crackling noises. Think of a time period can help. I have the old camera and telephone in a room they go together nicely. You can do that with future rooms too.
Add everything you can think of you might want to use and then take away. Take away everything that doesn't seem to work perfectly that you love there.
That's how I do rooms anyway. It takes a while. XD

If it helps look up the theme challenge. A lot of that furniture is a good starting point. Obviously don't follow it to a T :)

I love to mix and match. I also have Cyrus refurbish certain pieces with clothing or patterns. I also try all different walls and floors until I find the perfect ones. If none of them work, then I find or make patterns. This can take awhile, but it really changes the look of a room. If you're going for a certain color, remember that so many pieces can be refurbished in the colors you want. Like the simple sofa and chair, the natural pieces, common chair, etc.
