Ugh.
I recently lost my physical copy of Animal Crossing (which had my main town on it...) and now have to restart from scratch on my digital copy, (which was a cycle town...) but, I just can't seem to stop restarting! I've had to map reset plenty of times, and each time I picked a map I liked, either I placed my house in a bad spot, a villager planted their house right in front of it the next day, or there's a fruit I don't like, just to name a few. Grr...
I wish I could just reset once and stick with that town, but nooooo, of course I just can't stick with one town, according to myself...I'm on my 15th reset now. e_e
I need help bad, but I don't know how or what to ask. So, I guess this is my question: How do you deal with losing your main town and having to start over?

think of one main thing that you want from your new town and when you get that one thing, settle on the town

thats how i did it anyway

I weigh out the pros and cons. The pros always win. Everything in the game can be gotten back except the main things that will always stay the same
Grass pattern
Town hall color
Town station color
Fruit

I always have a set of stuff I like to reset for so I will give up a full fleshed out town with everything in it for a new town that has all my permanent aesthetics

I'd suggest making two lists:
Things you want to have and things you don't want.

Grass Pattern: Circle, Triangle, or Square?
Native Fruit: Peach, Cherry, Apple, Pear, Orange
Town Hall Colour: Green, Brown, Blue, Grey
Train Station Colour: Red, Green, Blue, Brown
Starter Villagers if this is important to you.

Right down things you HAVE to have and things that don't matter as much.
If the town has those things you want, try to just play for a while.
Maybe play until you unlock the island.
If you still aren't happy then, figure out why.
Is it the layout? Did someone plot in a bad place and you don't feel like trying to make them move out?
Figure out why you want to reset and then decide if you want to go through with resetting again or not.
And then make a new list if you need to!

Thanks everyone! That's not a bad idea at all. I was just resetting and hoping for the best each time, but I guess I should be a bit more picky before placing my house. Peaches and Circle grass is my main priority; don't really care for the colors of the buildings or starters, as I usually move them out ASAP for dreamies.
