I love my island for the most part, but I planted a TON of flowers beforehand and they all spread through tt and trying to clean them up has been super tiring and terraforming has also just been a mess for me so far. I didn't pick my island based on it's map since I reset for deirdre, but this time I may try to do that (and get a random starter and just hunt down deirdre- especially with the starter houses situation) I don't mind tting again so long as I don't mess up with flowers and even though getting back all my villagers may be a pain I can bear with it. I've been weighing on this thought for a week, but I just never feel inspired to play the game with my current island status. Thoughts?

i just posted a thread about the same thing! i decided to restart because im not happy with my island. i rushed to much into it without thinking about what i actually want

has restarting helped you have peace of mind?

If you’ll TT, flowers will still multiply. I’m always on the side of hold back from resetting as much as you can unless you really really really hate your game because resetting can lead to disconnect and most of all, it can be a vicious cycle and you wouldn’t want that.

i havent done it yet, but im hoping ti will :) check out my thread to see what people reccommended!

I know they'll still multiply, but my tt strat was sloppy before and when I say I had a lot of flowers... I mean A LOT.. to put it in perspective anywhere that didn't have flowers had flowers after I was done

hm....if you're feeling truly uninspired with your island, resetting could certainly help. focusing more on your island map and getting deirdre later may be a good idea, since you'll be able to get her actual interior, and it's not like she's expensive. how attached are you to your other villagers? it looks like you have an all-deer island...if you want to get that again it'll take quite some time. also, resetting your entire island and building from the ground up will take much more time than digging up all the flowers you have (and trust me, i know how annoying those flowers are - i'm in a similar position). however, if you're truly uninspired by your island map and want a new one, and wouldn't mind the time and effort of working towards your villagers again, then go for it.

Can’t you just terraform around them and request cleanup? Or just throw all of them out gradually or sell them? I think it’ll still be faster than going through the entire tutorial phase of the game and collecting all fossils and insects and fish all over again. Not to mention re learning DIYs.

I don't mind cycling villagers out to get my other villagers (it actually is kind of relaxing for me), but the flowers are even more of a chore because I have joycon drift which is just.. the icing on the cake.. there are other things that do annoy me about my map like I'm not in love with it, but I'm not positive what irks me about it either

^ i agree, i also restarted my island and it's soooo much work. definitely see if you can just put up w everything and if even terraforming won't make you happy or any decorations then restart. it is a lot, epecially if you're as picky as me. it took me around a week to find my ~perfect~ island </3
in saying that tho, it definitely pays off because i see endless potential in my island & i absolutely love it! im so happy with it & i havent even started terraforming yet! <3

I've tried requesting cleanup- does nothing, but it goes slow because of issues with joycon drift and the re-collection of things I really don't mind (specifically because I haven't even been focusing on some of these things super strongly to begin with)

i would recommend pinning down what it is about your map that you dislike before you restart, so you know exactly what it is you'll be looking for and don't end up in the same position again.

I'd recommend against reseting, since it really is a lot of work. Unless you really don't like parts of your map, like the river entrances, town hall, secret beach, etc. I had the flower issue too (had to TT a TON to get my dreamies) so I've been there! I'd suggest asking players you trust to come over and help you with the flowers. I can come if you want the help, and I can bring a trash can to keep the process going smoothly 😊

(note: I'm very biased because I feel like its pretty hard to get an all-deer village and I'd hate to see that go to waste 🥺)

Also, will you be resetting starting from the current date or will you travel back to launch date then catch up day by day? We’ve already had a few events by now and you’re gonna be missing on the Sakura and bunny day items plus the nature day stuff but if you can live without them that’s okay. If you really really really despise your town and you can’t make a way around it then I guess resetting is your best bet. But yeah, it can be a vicious cycle. I’m not trying to dissuade you, I’m just warning you based on personal experience since I became a habitual resetter in NL. That’s why I promised not to dare try that once in NH. Lol.

I did a massive flower purge of my island over the last few days, and I feel SO much better about everything after doing so! Maybe try that first? Felt like I regained so much control that I'd lost by letting them run wild and trying to breed all the new ones from Leif like wildfire. Big mistake. Transferred a bunch of flowers to the beach to keep them where they wouldn't spread and then I can put them where I want whenever I'm ready. Working great!

I think when it comes to the villagers idm too much because I like cycling anyways, but one of my main things I’d like to do is get deirdre out of her starter home- maybe I’ll see if someone will hold her and tt her back to me! I would appreciate the help though and seeing if it helps

I was in a similar space about a week ago. I have restarted my island. I told myself that I could start on the date I got the game (release day) and time travel up to the present day. I also let myself save almost all of my catalog and all of the NMTs I had accumulated by cooperating with my husband by having him hold my stuff. Which is how I managed to island-hop for Sherb again.

I am so much happier with my island. There were a bunch of little things that must have been bothering me with my previous island. I feel no pressure to keep up with the crowd now or to collect EVERYTHING anymore. I have no desire to reset again since it was a lot of work to catch up. On the plus side, I understand why people like time-traveling now and I understand that time-traveling is not the same as just putting in a cheat code for items and bells.

Unless it's something that you can't truly fix by keeping the same island, wouldn't you still run into the same issues with a new island? Then again, if your mind is already feeling down about the current island, sometimes a fresh start is what's needed.

I think it's fair to restart so that your dreamie isn't stuck in a starter house. We don't know if Nintendo will change that, but we do know that most of us now have the most time to restart their island and get back to where they were. And it's fun to reset for an easy to work with map.
