Request expired on the same day

I'm little peeved at this. Skye asked for a wharf roach. I closed the game, came back, caught the wharf roach and now I don't get the option to give it to her! Why? Is it glitch?

Aren't these requests suppose to be valid for the entire day? I did not reset either.

That happened with a fruit request, the option to give the fruit appeared, but the villager said he is not hungry anymore
It was on the same day he asked for the fruit.
