Rep systems are only going to promote elitism, as Odd said, and they're going to increase the frequency in which people spam, in an attempt to make themselves known.

The Steam users forums use rep points, and it works well with them. People usually get rep from making good and intelligent posts. However, that may be because the Steam users forum has older and more intelligent people who know what to do with those rep points. I don't think TBT would handle rep well. Figuring that it's a rather small community compared to a handful of other forums who have hundreds of users online every minute.

It's basically a point system where there's no max nor minimum rep. Each user can rate another user up or down by 1 to 5 points. On a site I'm on, if the rating falls below -100 points you get banned.
I think TBT should incorporate something like that. Though to make it more efficient maybe you can only give a rating after so many posts.

Here, I have an idea. How about you can rate individual posts. You can either give it a thumbs up or thumbs down rating. The total amount of each rating will be monitored on each person's post. This could be pretty useful to rate people's posts.

Good idea. Kinda like the youtube comments system.

Overall though, rep isn't a good idea. Too many immature people on TBT would abuse it.
