REMEMBER TO SAVE!!

I was just on the island with someone (name withheld) who decided to cut down all the trees and trap me, so I did what everyone said to do. I put my stuff in the box and errored. But, I LOST MY STUFF! I should've listened to my gut feeling. Why does everyone believe this lie that erroring without saving works? Please don't make the same mistake I made!!!

You can't save on the island. And, um, obviously you lost your stuff. You shouldn't of flicked the WiFi switch. He would have gone away eventually.

Not sure about that. I've had people who have stayed for hours, like once this guy trapped me with the intention of making sure I lost my stuff. It's sick!! I'm aware you can't save their, but people think that just because you put it in the box, that it's safe. It's not. I learned that the hard way.

In the end, I just block them and move on, but I know people like to hunt on the island, so it's good to get the word out.

Then I don't understand why you would say that it's a lie that disconnecting doesn't work. It does work to get off an island if someone is intentionally trapping you. And of course, if the game hasn't saved when you disconnected, you're gonna lose your stuff.

Since you thought that putting your stuff in a box would automatically make it safe, that's the lie you believed. An item is only safe in the box is if the game has saved when someone leaves or arrives the island. I thought that was common to know.

Only if the game hasn't saved since you put it into the box.

The mistake you made wasn't that you put the stuff in the box, it's the fact that you errored and didn't even save. It works the same way on the homeland.

Anything you've got in the box when the other guy arrives will be safe, because it saves when someone arrives or leaves.
Anything you haven't managed to put in the box, or anything you get subsequently, will be lost when you D/C.

If nothing comes up to save when you close the box or after it, then it's obviously not saved. Sorry you…fell for it though.

Put your stuff in the box often. If you're lucky, someone might come along, leave, or go on a tour. These all save, as well as completing a tour.

This is precisely why I fish/bug hunt on my own island and simply tan at Club Tortimer.
