Redesigning Villager Home Question

After you have redesigned a villager's home, will they alter the design if you gift them items? I haven't tested it yet and I don't want them to ruin it if I overhaul the design so just curious!

They will never display anything you give them, thankfully. This includes furniture, fish/bugs, clothes... basically anything they can display in their original interiors.

You can even keep their original interior and just change/add 1 piece of furniture and it will prevent them from altering stuff since the interior is technically no longer their original one.

I found out it also works with door plates. Once you redesign a house, you'll have to redesign it again if you want them to put out a new doorplate.

There is also another very annoying issue I keep having with redesigned homes. When a villager is crafting or cooking, they sometimes take out an entirely new DIY bench or stove when I had already placed one in their house. This is not consistent though, and I don't know what the exact criteria is, unless each villager has a default DIY bench/stove that they must use. Flora, for example. I gave her a pink DIY bench, but she insists on taking out the stump DIY instead...right next to the pink one. But some villagers use the ones I gave them...so I don't get it. I think for stoves, if you put something on top of it, like the frying pan, it will render it non-usable...at least that's my theory. But it seems random, and I wish I could fix it so that they use the ones I gave them in their new designs...

That's good to hear. I just got to 30 house designs on HHP, so redesigning on main island is unlocked. I talked to Nook, but haven't tried it yet. Does the designing work just like on HHP? Can we make the villager houses 10 x 10?

I know for sure you can't make the houses 10 x 10. I'm assuming you design them just like in HHP. I have it unlocked but I haven't tested it out yet, maybe I'll redo Spike's house.

Also if they move out of your island and go to say someone's island they will not keep the renovation you did for their home, instead it will go back to normal with its original interior.

This is super fantastic to hear! My Judy has had a seabass in her house since my kids used to share my island with me, that she never replaces with anything else (no matter how many crescent Moon chairs I gift her!) So I need to get on with rolling credits on HHP so I can finally change her ugly interior design!

Hi, was looking an answer for a different but similar question. What happens if the villager wants to leave and you replace them with a different villager on your own island? Do you need to remodel the new villager's home on your island to have it look like it used to for the one who moves out?

But to answer your question, yes since each villager is different and their houses are too. If you google it, you’ll see each villager has a different interior so customizing it doesn’t carry over to the next villager. It wouldn’t make sense to anyways.

I know I figured I would ask in the thread anyway since it was somewhat pertaining instead of a new thread. Also, when I googled my original question, this forum showed up.

Yes, I'm aware that each villager comes with their own interior, but I still wanted to ask because I didn't want to assume just because that it changes on default that means once you completely remodel/redecorate their house on your island it will change too.

ACNH has so many different internal rules that I don't think it's too far fetched that there may be a possibility that once you change their interior & exterior, after the new villager appears in boxes, it would remain the same. Especially because, if you customize their house, then no matter what you gift them, their interior will remain and they will not show off their gifts. I'm just defending my logic because if it were true, then it would make sense to me.

But I see that you'd have to redecorate, so good to know, thank you! I'll make sure to take photos of interior before changing my villager so that I am able to redecorate the exact same way.
