Is there a way to put things in the recycle bin? From what I’ve been reading, there is not and the stuff in there is usually from villagers moving in or out and rusty parts from Gulliver etc. But the reason I’m confused is because, a couple days ago I put a sandbox on my island. Today my 5 year old got on his account and played for a while and I noticed my sandbox was gone so I knew he took it because he also messed up some of my construction work in the same area. I got on his account and it wasn’t in his inventory so I just figured he sold it or something but then later I found it in the recycle bin and I was super confused how it got in there?

villagers can throw things away too, like gifts they received that they don't like. maybe he gifted it to a villager? And items that are cleared when you put down a building also get sent to the recycling bin, but you would have noticed if there was a building where the sandbox used to be

There's a clean up feature when you use the terraforming app that sends all furniture and things on the floor to the recycling bin! Or, if you're playing with more than one player, if the person who is not playing as the leader picks up something, it automatically goes to the recycling bin since they have no pocket spaces

When your recycling bin is full, any additional items must make room I believe

He must have given it to a villager then! I just thought it would take longer for it to end up in there if that were the case because it was like an hour after he played that I noticed it in there. I never look in the recycling bin and I just happened to look and was surprised to see it in there. Thank you!

Ohhh actually I bet that is what happened then. He can’t really read yet so he just presses random things sometimes and he was terraforming lol

yup that's probably it, cause even if a villager throws something away it shouldn't show up in the recycling bin in the same day

Tom Nook - “if the box gets full, we’ll get rid of the oldest item first, so don’t delay in picking out what you want.”

straight from the game :)

I’ve actually not experienced the box being full. It’s originally 20 slots but when there were more items the bin just increased to 40 slots (it could scroll down). Was this intentional?

Ya I know that :) , I literally don’t have anything in my recycling bin but maybe 2 things. I was just confused on how my 5 year old put my sandbox in their during solo play but I figured out it was from the cleanup feature from the terraforming app.

Right on glad you figured it all out. I Just wanted to make sure I wasn’t wrong on that part.

o_O I have no idea it can get full...... omg.... it's where i keep my rusted parts
I think for someone who doesn't TT it could potentially take a while to fill up the recycling bin.
However; I wouldn't recommend it for storing items - especially things like rusted parts which can't be easily obtained.
You can just use your own in-house storage for that. Also, rusted parts stack.

Oh wow! Now that's interesting :0
Like, since when you have a 2nd player you can play with them on co-op and have them dig up trees/flowers/bamboos/etc so that they'll go in the recycle box (since you can't store them), if its storage actually increases to 40 it could be very useful!

Might test this and see if each resident gets 20 slots in the bin lol

I've never experienced having my recycle bin full. I mean, at one point, it did get almost full but I decided to just empty it out since I did not want to lose out on any potential "good" items. Nothing ever remarkable has come out of there, except of course the rusted parts. But I did not even know that the recycle bin could actually be filled up by using the cleanup method. You learn more new things everyday! 😅
