Recycle bin capacity

Has anyone maxed out their recycle bin? I'm using it as storage and I'm trying to figure out the limits of that and when I'll start having to take some things out. I saw some speculation that a second character might increase the capacity, but no definitive information on that. I know with one character it can hold at least 30 items, but I just got to 31 items and I recently made a second character so I'm not sure if a capacity of 40 is just the default or contingent on the second player!

I only use the recycling bin to get my moved villagers items/get the iron armor they almost ALWAYS leave (that was a gift, guys!) and to check for the crummy clothing that rarely appears there. As of now I’ve only gotten a pair of holey socks (they’re incorporated into my “totally not a wild child don’t hit me with a net” transformation!)
