i've always been a sucker for the corny, sappy, and girly storylines.
i know that there's an anime thread already, but i'm looking for shoujo anime specifically.

i have already seen:

fruits basket (<3)
kimi ni todoke (MY ABSOLUTE FAVE)
ouran high school host club
kaichou wa maid-sama
ultra maniac
bokura ga ita
full moon o sagas-h-i-t-e
cardcaptor sakura
nana
paradise kiss

so yeah. preferably one with good looking art (not so outdated) <3 thank you.

Not so sappy and girly, but I'm gonna recommend you Revolutionarily Girl Utena anyways. It's great, shoujo with some light shoujo-ai/yuri themes(the anime/-movie is a bit more than the anime series itself) and one of a few animes I've actually finished.

Also, Juuousei. A bit more on the cutelooking boys and drama and drama side with heavy sci-fi themes.

the wallflower/yamato nadeshiko shichi henge <3
it's probably not as sappy as you would like but it's a great romantic comedy with a kick-ass protagonist and some lovely bishounen to look at

Peach Girl(a little outdated but it's good anyways)
Vampire Knight
Itazura Na kiss(I love this one)
Say I ove You(my favorite shoujo ever)

And if you read manga, Kyou Koi wo Hajimemasu is great.

im not a shoujo anime fan really but all i can think of is tonari no kaibutsu kun. though if you read shoujo manga i have like a whole list because i gobble up that crap lmao.

Aw Jen! I never knew you liked anime/SHOUJO TOT

OK The wallflower/perfect girl evolution/nadeshiko shichi henge is one, kind of reminds me of Ouran High except it's more serious and actually has a story. It's reverse harem as well and really cute with a badboy protagonist.

Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun (my little monster) is my all time favorite (to the point I even picked up the manga). Typical high school story, really cute though. Kind of reminded me of Kimi ni Todoke in a way.

Say I love you (Sukitte Ii na yo.) is more of a serious anime, but also adorable.

KAMISAMA HAJIMEMASH/TA (i though no slash lol damn filter) Personal favorite, I have never loved a shoujo heroine as much as her. I just love her hahaha and I love how Tomoe (guy) and Nanami (girl) act towards each other. Favorite I just love this!

I wish there were more shoujo anime but I can't find of anything else anymore so ended up reading the manga (which they have a huge list of shoujo :D)

More shoujo anime:
Toradora!
Special A (but ppl complain about the Art but I love this and also forever in love with the guysssss)
Yumeiro Patissiere??? (Not sure if you'll like this one but it's really cute. Mostly about cooking though but the romance is oooowoo cute)
LOVELY COMPLEX. I love this so much. It's funny, really funny, and adorable and cute asdfghjkl;;;

I'm so glad you watched Ultra Maniac. I actually liked it but seems a lot of people doesn't really because of the Art ;a;

I also like Peach Girl but ehhhhhh the Art is really old, but still really good story. ~ good luck finding shoujo!!!

It's technically josei but I enjoyed Princess Jellyfish. I found it to be more like shoujo than most other josei mangas and anime though.

rose of versailles/versailles no bara also came to my mind last night. i know it's old and you said you didn't want that but to me, it's still one of the most beautiful, sad and kitschy stories ever.

also everything clamp.

One of the KEY productions?
I know Kamisama Hajimema****a (filter lol) but I'm not sure if it's shoujo. It looks shounen-ish but it's supposed to be a shoujo haha. I love that anime/manga c:

This is technically seinen, but Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo (The Pet Girl of Sakurasou) is really funny and the romance is really sweet. I think if you love Kimi no Todoke, you'll at least like Sakurasou.

Honestly I think ANY serious anime fan should see Rose of Versailles, regardless of how old it is. It's a classic.

Personal Favorites: Maison Ikkoku. I know it's an older series, but it's a classic. I love this series.

I also agree with some people who recommended Toradora, Clannad, and Princess Jellyfish. They are all excellent.

I also recommend these, they aren't really shoujo per se, but do center around a love theme, whether the whole time or eventually:
Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai (AnoHana)
Honey and Clover
Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou (Kare Kano, also known as His and Her Circumstances)
Princess Tutu
Inu x Boku SS
Chuunibyou Demo Koi Ga ****ai
Whisper of the Heart (fantastic lesser known Ghibli movie)

OH YEAH I forgot about kamisama. the anime is okay and its a cute shoujo i guess. but the manga is way longer so if you end up watching kamisama read the manga bc kamisama is kinda rushed

yes!! this.

watch madoka magica for sure. also toradora!, sailor moon, tokyo mew mew (i liked the manga a lot too).
there's a few more, idk if clannad and anohana are considered shoujo but those two are amazing anime too
