so i have a couple of recipes outside, you know for my friends who visit that want to claim them if they haven't learned it yet. but i also want a 5 star rating to get jacobs ladders and the golden watering can recipe. isabelle is telling me about the items outside lying around, i'm assuming those, so are there other ways i can store them knowing i can't in my house storage?

oh i might also add, in new leaf there's a number for items you can leave outside before you lose perfect town status. is there a limit for NH as well?

I just toss them on the floor of my house, there's no other way to keep them other than on the floor somewhere lol

Currently I'm on a three star rating, so I don't know how it affects a higher rating but I've made some stalls where I've thrown the recipes on and there's some in front of them as well. Isabelle doesn't tell me that people complain about items laying around.

I've had the message that people DO complain when there were tree branches, apples and wood laying around, after picking these up, the message disappears.

i guess i'll have to pay my loan to get the basement. you'd think you'd be able to store in your storage for later use considering the villagers even advice you to gift the recipes to friends.

can you pick up the items tho when there's visitors and place it outside? or you have to do it before they arrive?

Are u meant to go around picking the tree branches up each day? I think I'm gonna put clear tiles around my trees to prevent them dropping.

Recipes do affect your island status! If you let them on the ground, it will be like trash. only way is to keep them in the house.

I've heard too many DIY recipes on the floor will count against 5 stars, but I don't know how many

I just sell all mine unless it's something possibly sought after I could probably sell, like golden recipes. Stuff I'd want myself if I didn't have already.

I was a hoarder in New Leaf.

I'm having this dilemma too. Who's idea was it to not make DIYs storable?

The same people who gave this game a small inventory, a house storage limit, the inability to craft multiple items at once, the inability to purchase multiple items and set quantities, not having stackable items, having stackable items with low amounts, not having a workbench use your storage resources, and not allowing us to split stacks of items.

According to this, they don't count: https://www.belltreeforums.com/threads/full-island-rating-guide.509286/

According to this, the max is 15: https://www.belltreeforums.com/threads/full-island-rating-guide.509286/

I store a lot of recipes in my basement next to my turnips. If the space is not enough I put them in another room and move them to the basement on Saturday/after I sold my turnips, so they won't impact my HHA rating negatively.

You can pick up anything in your house while you have visitors, as long as they are not in your house. So if they are only running around on your island you will be able to pick up the recipes. You might also be able to pick them up when you have visitors in your house because recipes aren't placed furniture but I'm not sure about that.

Edit: this might only apply while you have opened your island for friends, it might differ if you invite via dodo code

Yeah, I feel you. I built a junkyard at the beginning of the game where I store the stuff visitors can have for free and Isabelle keeps yelling at me...
