first of all sorry i don't have a town map to show, but basically -

when i started my town there was a perfect bridge just before the waterfall on the east side of my town, and i built my mayor's home on the right side of the bridge, and later built a well on the left side (where my fruit orchard is). i built a second bridge to the north of the town, and just recently decided to demolish the original bridge and replace it with a suspension bridge, which i like the look of much better than the cobblestone.

however, the game won't allow me to build the bridge in the exact same location as the original bridge. i thought if i demolished the well it would allow it, but even then isabelle tells me that my house is too close, which makes no sense, as the original bridge was there before i chose the plot for my mayor's home.

to add to this frustration, the only remaining place to build a second bridge is just a few steps to the right from the northern bridge, because my campsite, apparently, is also too close to the riverbank for a bridge to be built closer to my home.

i don't think there is anyway to fix this, i just wanted to share my frustration and ask if anyone has had similar issues. it's really disheartened me T__T i had the perfect bridge right by my home and only myself and my vanity to blame lol

Same happened to me once. I set stonehenge PWP near a bridge, then I demolished the coblestone bridge to set the wooden bridge and isabelle won't allow me cause stonehenge, so I had to demolish the damn expensive PWP to set the bridge again. My house is also close to the bridge, fortunatelly didn't cause any trouble.

I kind of feel your pain. I wanted to put my suspension bridge in a specific spot and Bubbles put her house right on the other end. ;-;

Yep, similar thing happened to me. I had a bridge just by the big lake thing that you have in the river, built the cafe to the front right part of the bridge so I still had bridge access but had some use out of the funny shaped space I'd got there. Decided to demolish the bridge as I wanted it literally like 2 squares over so it was further from the lake, couldn't do it. Tried to put it back where it was previously....Isabelle said no....had a massive strop over it but in the end there was nothing for it other than completely moving it to a new location.
What really gets me is that villagers can plot their houses anywhere they like. Even if it's within an inch of retail or town hall. Yet you can't place a bridge within several squares of another building. They really need to work on that either in the next AC game or the update (which I doubt they will do it then)

Same here honestly
I had a cobblestone bridge to go to my other 2 player house
But wanted a modern one but now I. Can't apparently build one

So I'm thinking to erase one of the. Character (his house it's not all upgraded) to see if it's him. Causing it...
If it's not.... It be hard erasin the other one.... For the many items it has

Similar thing happened here, but due to a villager auto-plotting right behind one of my bridges... I wanted to destroy and rebuild the bridge in the same spot in a different style, but because they moved there I was unable to until they moved... :/ it's crummy because they should say "you can't put a house here it's too close to the bridge. But no, you get to figure it out the hard way =[

You can see which house by clicking their name on your map that way you don't blindly delete someone

I know the characters names and which is which
I just hope if erase that one.... I can build my bridge because if not... the other... oh god....

After playing for two years I FINALLY got the modern bridge. Two of them were replaced easily, the last one however, not so much. No matter where I positioned Isabelle she would not allow me to put the bridge back where it was. It bites because it was the most frequently used bridge, I finally gave up and now just live with the two bridges.

Same thing happened to me. I had a diagonal wooden bridge that I had and I wanted to upgrade it later to a zen bridge. But when I demolished it and wanted to put in the new zen bridge, Isabelle wouldn't let me do it and kept telling me it was too close to my zen garden. Which is complete BS because the zen garden was there well before my wooden bridge.

I just think that sometimes Isabelle will bug out and no matter how far away and feasible it is to put in a PWP, the game just won't allow you to plot that new structure. Which in my opinion is a big bogus, and hope they correct this in future AC games. Not to promote/condone hacking, but this is definitely one of the top reasons why I hacked my game years after thoroughly playing my town. I really wanted to have full capability of where I plotted my PWPs without having to deal with Isabelle hassles.

tabris, unfortunately its not weird, happens a lot. Before giving up I would try with Isabelle to see how near you can get to where you want to be.
The yes/no answer is based on where you are standing so I edge a little bit away and try again (you might have to move out some to get Isabelle to follow you and then move back in).
I use tiles to give me idea of where I am and where she allows the bridge. Unfortunately she can allow the bridge but it appears quite away from where you are actually standing.
Its worth trying from both sides of the river as well.

Look at the town in total and see if there is a way you can add two bridges that would work (ie taking out the 2nd bridge once you have got another in). But again be careful if there is anything at all close to that 2nd one.

If you can get her to give you a bridge, then go for it, & see where Loid is actually situated - if you don't like it you can cancel the bridge. Don't make any donations as those would be lost. The only downside is you cannot try for another PWP until the next day.

thanks everyone for sharing your stories, it sucks that so many people have had to deal with this lol. i feel a bit better knowing i'm not alone

thanks for this! yeah i will try again, i've tried roughly 3 times (i say roughly bc the 3rd time i got too frustrated and didn't try shuffling around as hard lol) but i am willing to keep trying, i just really doubt it will do anything, the space where the bridge was before is very small since it was between a bend in the river and the waterfall. i'm just dealing with a single bridge for now! it makes my mayor look like he likes to be isolated lol, having his house in the farthest corner of town.... ah well

its because the game has a really annoying problem WHERE THERE NEEDS TO BE ROOM FOR VILLAGERS AT THE CEREMONY OF ITS OPENING YOU DONT EVEN GO TO.

is that really why!? i guess it makes sense then, but that's so frustrating... i doubt it will be fixed in the update lol. alas
