Really weird glitched town?

So my friend's probably gunna' be angry at me about posting this but...

A few weeks ago she bought a second hand new leaf (it might have been new one but im not sure) and played it a lot for about a week. She did a lot of time travelling and plot resetting and trading and stuff. she definitely didn't hack it at all though

she ended up leaving her game at my house and i accidentally put it into my DS thinking it was one of my games. but i was very shocked because her town was all glitches and weird! i dont know if maybe the game card got damaged or not but now it seems permanently messed up...

Basically, everything is normal, all the paths and stuff, except the plants (that you plant in the town, not furniture plants). The flowers are completely invisible but still get damaged when you run through them, you can't pick them up though. The clover are just a cluster of green dots that you cant interact with. The trees where mostly invisible but became a little more visible when you shook them... the rocks were weird solid green lumps with coloured dots on them and the bushes were just big square spaces with green speckles. It was really weird. the bushes still moved when you bumped into them... basically, the plants was just mostly invisible/look unfinished! the fruit on the trees was still completely normal, though.

Even weirder, when i went into a players house and came out again, the trees turned completely invisible this time, and the bushes looked like they'd been wrapped in brown paper or something!! who's wrapping all these bushes up!!! that's ridiculous!! But they changed back to the weird glitchey squares they were before when I went in any other building and came back out

Wondering what's happened and if there's any hope for this save file/game card? :/ I'm assuming it's corrupted but is there a way to fix it...?

This sounds like a damaged game cartridge, there may be no hope for it. Sorry

That sounds extremely weird... I don't think the game can be salvaged. I guess she'll have to buy a new cartridge.

I actually really want to see this. Do you have her dream address at all? I'm really curious about a town like this.

It does sound like a damaged cartridge though. The RAM editor and Map Editor doesn't have the ability to do that to your trees or rocks, at least not from what I know.

the problem happens everytime you load up the game on whatever DS, I think she is aware but hasnt really had time to do anything about it (she went off the game tbh)

I can try making her a dream address actually..

She's gunna kill me letting people see her town because she was like mid-landscaping and the place isn't like ready to be seen yet. so keep that in mind when you go there, and the messed up trees dont help either. I'd really like to know if anyone knows how to fix this, i'm not sure you can get a refund for a second hand game that broke a few weeks into owning it so

I skipped forward a month to march because her patterns match grass before i set up the dream address. everything's back to normal? the trees, bamboo, flowers, everything's gone back to normal now the season's changed from winter (snow) to spring (grass)
I have no idea what happened here, im gunna try going back to winter again...

and go back to february when it's snowy again. the trees and plants are back to being a weird glitchy mess. I decided to be a bit more evil and set up a dream address for this time: REMOVED THE ADDRESS!
again please understand that this is a town set up for spring and is mid-landscaping and stuff though. please please please let me know if you have any ideas :/
it really looks like it's kinda damaged beyond repair now

I'll edit this post with screen caps later since I'm on mobile, but I went to the DA and had none of these issues. At all. I took pictures of everything that you said was glitched up, and it all appears 100% normal on my end. I don't know if the glitches corrected themselves for the dream or if it's a 3DS issue. Do you mind taking pictures of these glitches?

this has happened on several 3DSes, so it must be the cartridge then? because it looks like all the textures and stuff from winter are damaged/missing so maybe you can see them because your game has them and stuff... i cant take pictures btw

I visited the dream address as well, everything seemed normal for me :l I know when you hack and something glitches - it appear in the dream town as well. In general I think any glitch with a town would show in a DA, and I've never even heard of this happening before. I'm not doubting it has happened, but can you not just even use a phone or something to upload a photo?? But how could see be mid- landscaping her town if everything is invisible - and you said this is on every DS you've tried?

But you can take it to the store it was brought from, they will put it in their DS and see for themselves and give a new one {well - a second hand one but replacement} for free.

her town is designed for spring/summer, so she's always had it in that time, but whilst time travelling to move villagers in, she ended up in winter... the plants are only messed up in the winter (when there's snow everywhere)

No that's fine, I think everyone just wants to see the glitchy parts so we can try to help. Has she not once said anything about it to you though?

Is it possible that the it's not the trees invisible, it's just them dying in the winter?

It sounds like its damaged in some way. Have you tried it in her 3ds or just yours?

Yeah this is definitely some sort of data corruption on the card. It has nothing to do with save data.
Can you check if there's any physical damage?

It sounds like the cart is damaged and not the village itself. Other villages would probably look the same on that cart if I'm right.

This is a very good idea actually. It'd be hella weird too if it was still glitchy on their end but normal to us.

I basically went through all the points the OP made and checked around and didn't find anything. Flowers were able to picked up, clovers were normal, all that.
