Reactions idea!

I had an idea for the reactions on this site.
What if instead of 4 emojis, we used some of the icons from AC reactions? Here’s the idea:
Like -

(pleased)
Love -

Celebrate -

Hug -

(sorrow)

(New) Laughter-

I’m sure more could be came up with, but these are all I have right now. Also, sorry the images look off center, I’m not sure what I could do about that.

It sounds like a cute idea. I used to frequent an Avatar forum. The series not James Cameron's movie. They had emotes created for the series. I can't find them now, but they were like very small pixelated chibi-esque sprites of all the characters. I thought it was a cute addition. They were tucked away in the smilies icon.

I don't think the AC reactions should replace the current reaction system they have in place. While it sounds cute, it's a big change and not everyone is always on board with drastic changes like that. It took this forum forever to have celebrate and hug reactions. When I first joined the love emotion was this instead of this and I know for a lot of members it took them a while to get used to it. So I can only imagine how long a full change would take if there wouldn't be a lot of push back.

I do think the idea of having the AC reactions as an additional smilies category could be fun. Someone could make the argument that someone out there could use them to troll, but the same can be said about smilies like these and so on.

The variety of reaction options does come up often on TBT! Back in Oct 2023, there was community discussion about what reactions people would like to see included. In Feb 2024, the Hug and Celebrate reactions were added! There's been other user-led threads about reactions, and I vaguely remember seeing the idea of using AC icons come up previously (example).

I'm personally fine with the current reaction options, but I wouldn't be averse to the idea of changing/expanding them either if that's what a majority wanted in the future! I do think the AC:NH reaction icons, as well as the AC Pocket Camp stamps, are quite cute. They could be cute Discord emojis if they're discernible at that size. I imagine the reaction idea would look something like this (they'd display at 32 px, but I sized them to 40 px because I think there's room to crop them):

Animal Crossing: New Horizons reaction icons (grey icons)
Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp stamps (coloured icons)

Like

Love

Celebrate

Hug

(I also think the "thank you" stamp is neat, though the Like reaction works well for that already!)

Now that I think about it hug probably shouldn’t be replaced with the sorrow icon because, while that would work fine in most contexts, in a few it would make no sense

Not that I'd say anyone here would do it, but I could see other places using sorrow more as a dislike button. The hug reaction doesn't really have the same affect.

Still the idea behind reactions being the AC emotes is a cute feature if they decided to do it. Maybe they could take it into consideration in the future.

Yeah I guess I was thinking of how the hug reaction is often used in threads like What’s Bothering You and that Sorrow would have a similar effect

I don't particularly dislike the idea but I was thinking that, if we do hypothetically change the reactions, we should add more Animal Crossing ones instead of just replacing what we currently have. It would be nice to have some variety!

Edit: But considering the current state of TBT, I'm not sure that's going to happen any time soon.
