*rant* How to keep your villagers as original as possible

*A bit of a rant so don't be offended, this is just a huge pet peeve of mine*

Ok, I'm not sure if people are being lazy or are uninformed so I'll assume for the best and think you just don't know. I've received many villagers that could've been much more original if people knew how to keep them that way, instead of letting them wear ugly able sister presets.

1) All of the patterns in the Able Sisters should be changed to umbrellas or hats
This is so the villagers don't wear the ugly presets I was talking about earlier
2) Buy everything in retail and then fill all of the slots with junk and set the price to 9 zillion bells
This is so the villagers don't buy furniture to put in their house or sell their furniture from their house
3) Don't give them anything
This is more for cyclers who shouldn't talk to villagers in the first place, or people who REALLY want to keep their villagers original but don't give them fish, or trade with them, nor deliver presents. This can make them switch outfits or furniture

I hate it when they buy the ugly ass clothes from the clothing store, I was thinking how I can stop the villagers from doing that, but im gonna go and change them all to umbrellas right now, thank you so much lol!

I was trying to be nice to Marina when I got her, but now her house looks like a weird museum rip off with some lovely furniture :') She moved to my brothers town, and now I got her back into my new town.

What finally made me switch out those Someone from Anytown designs was when Willow decided to switch into the duck one. It looked hilariously bad because on the scarves that the sheep wears, the duck is repeated over and over again. It pained me to look at her because Willow's always so fashionable.

I'm not so concerned about villager's houses because it's fun to decorate and you can always swap out anything that looks truly horrendous. It's the fossils, fish and bugs that are really hard to switch out. I also think it's nice not to see them remain static. Makes the game more personalised.

I just fill the Able Sisters' center display with cute outfits I've made myself that I love to see on my villagers. Problem solved!

I am an admin on a Facebook page and give away villagers so this will be a good way to keep my villagers more original for my members
And,it is annoying seeing a villager in ugly clothes,weird saying,and messed up house. I have bought many villagers hoping they are original only to find there house is a mess! Lol

whenever I buy villagers I'll specifically ask if they're 100% original or not, as I'm really picky about it. unfortunately a lot of people don't think to do these things, but I know it drives me crazy when they're wearing those default designs D:​

Okay, question: Are you really sure that villagers won't switch out their umbrellas? I remember giving an umbrella to a villager before. Villagers do switch their umbrellas. I think hats are a better option because villagers can't wear hats in this game (save for O'Hare but that's a part of his design)? I also have another problem where my villagers get "infected" by other villagers and wear same clothes then eventually displaying it on their homes.

By the way, thanks a lot for the tip. But sometimes I do like personalizing my villagers' stuff a bit to reflect their personalities and aesthetics more: a couple of refurbished blue furniture and gym equipment for Bam, cricket cage instead of a cicada cage for Genji, some mush furniture for Beau, etc.

I do the thing with retail because I lije nearly original houses but as far as shirts go I just let it happen if it has to. I never give my villagers shirts though.

This was actually very helpful! Even though I rarely sell/trade my villagers I still HATE the Able Sister designs that they wear.

yes, i try to keep my villagers as original as possible because i hate when they wear ugly designs and able sisters clothing and when they fill their houses with crud that doesn't match.

"Don't give them anything"

This isn't always a problem. They'll occasionally ask for wallpaper, flooring, or ores and they never put them in their house. Those are always safe.



The worst thing though is when you try and get them back into their original shirt and they put it in their house instead
