Today I am disappointed x3

I started up the game as normal and find that Rosie has placed a house right in the middle of one of my paths.

Now, If I'd have been expecting a villager to move in then I would have known to plot reset beforehand,
but as I already had 9 villagers I thought I could only get a tenth by inviting them from the campsite.

In what other ways can you get a tenth villager?

(I suppose it could have been worse - She could have landed on my path AND right infront of my bridge.... lol...
The bridge is actually a very short walk to the right >.>)

Yes streetpass or from visiting or being visited by a player of another town.

Rosie is very popular & nice - not so bad - you could detour the path in front of her house. or behind I suppose. I've often moved paths to incorporate villager houses.

I play with a friend quite regularly so maybe it was from them.

I have since reworked the path to go around the back of her house instead. It was just a bit of a shock as I was running along hehe.

Is there actually a way to clear your void?

Thanks for your help ^-^

I believe so.

It somethings along the line that you need 10 villagers in your town and someone has to visit you or something.
(I may be wrong about this)

Players say that if you go to a town that has 10 villagers with none in boxes it clears the void of the visiting character - so if you wan to visit someone (or them visit you) they need to clear their void first.

I've no experience but here's 2 threads, the 2nd link has the most detail.

If you want to avoid streetpass ones you either don't take the 3ds out, or turn off steetpass for acnl (I think you can do that via Digby)

I actually got Cookie from a streetpass. She used to be one of my dreamies, but I realised I didn't have space for her so I sold her. I wasn't expecting anyone to move in when I had nine villagers, I thought nobody could move in unless you invited them in tbh. I thought you would only get a random move in if you were down to eight villagers. I was kind of happy to have her since i'd wanted her, but had to get rid of her. Atleast I get to experience her for a little bit. Though she did put her house in a place I never would have picked, but it's not on my path or in the way of anything major. I'll have to get rid of her eventually anyway to make room for someone else, but it's not too bad getting a voided villager sometimes. Especially if it's someone you like.

You're actually pretty lucky it was a popular villager. I had Hippeux move in from someones town. Not only that, but he moved right on my paths and pink roses >.> I was tempted to quit playing after that.

Wow, but Rosie as a 10th villager from the void is pretty good. :O
But yeah, if you connected with someone who recently voided someone or street passed with someone then they do move in as your 10th. I'd be okay if she moved in but having to redo the paths would be super annoying. -.-
If you don't keep her, you can always sell or give her away!

I thought you could get a 10th neighbor at random...? Also, how do you tell when someone came from StreetPass? :p

P.S. I like your paths!

If you have a villager move in unexpectedly it could be the void or streetpass - you should be able to make at least a good guess as to which: void if you have recently visited or been visited - presumably you know the town involved.

If its a streetpass movein (from streetpassing someone while 3ds unit is out and about, usually in sleep mode) then you should have an HHA house in the plaza (you won't get this with a villager from visiting/being visited over wifi).
The villager should tell you which town they came from (plus eventually sing their old town tune).

Because I hadn't wifi'd with anyone I knew my 10th villager unexpected moveins were from streetpass and I was able to work out which house it was in HHA. If the house included a dream address I could even go and see their old town.

I think it's worse if it is one of your dreamies, because you know that if you want them in a better spot, you'll have to go through the whole 16 villagers cycle to get them back XD I do enjoy randomly getting villagers I like that aren't my favorites though :)
