If you gift a villager a raincoat would they wear it during normal weather or rain?

I think raincoats would work like other clothing like track suits where they would only wear it while working out, or in this case, in the rain. Similarly, if you give a villager an umbrella, they'll change out their regular one for the one you gave them!

I gifted a denim jacket to one of my villagers and they wear that when it’s raining

I gave Francine a dotted raincoat and she wore it even when it wasn’t raining sometimes.

yeah i gave coco a cute polka dot rain coat specifically while it was raining and while she had her raincoat outfit on, and altho she wore it during the rain, she also occasionally wears it when it isn't raining
