I don't think you can trade bugs

You can't trade bugs. Try on the island on the regular trees at night. I have caught a lot of them there and you can make money catching the really expensive beetles while you search.

Which type of trees can you find them on?

No, the rainbow stags are only found on the normal type trees in the middle, not on the palm trees around the edge. They look super plain and blend in well, so if you aren't sure just catch and check, and you'll soon find out
