A villager of mine is unexpectedly in boxes and I'm arranging for a person who has fewer villagers in their town than I do to come pick her up. I'm trading my villager for one of their's. Can the villager they're giving me (Fuchsia) already have pinged to move when they come to my town to pick up their villager or do they have to get my villager first and they work on getting Fuchsia to move? This is the first time I'm trading with one person and not just handing off a villager to one person and going to another person to pick up mine.

I hope this makes sense.

If I'm understanding your question correctly, I believe both your villager and their villager have to be in boxes for the trade to work if you're expecting a quick transition.

Yes! That's what I meant! I'm sorry if the question was confusing or how I worded it. I was confused if that was possible or not. I didn't know if my villager had to be completely gone before I could ask their's to come live with me. Usually if a villager pings, I give it to Person A in order to make space for the villager that Person B is giving me. I've never "swapped" villagers with the same person, I guess.

Your villager can be gone before they have theirs move into your town. That's surely another option. But if you had 10 villagers, then you wouldn't be able to get the villager you requested unless both were in boxes. I remember this happening to me once by accident. At least that's how I remember it. I don't regularly trade villagers, so someone who has more experience on this would be better.

So, I should tell the person I'm trading with to get Fuschia in boxes before coming by to get my villager? I wanted to make sure because if not, I was just going to cross my fingers, let him get my villager, and hope that he holds up his side of the deal and wait for him to get her into boxes.

Do you have 9 or 10 villagers at the moment? If you have 9, then I'd say that's safe. I don't know what happens if you have 10 and you try to trade a villager for a villager. I want to say both will go to the towns you ask them, but I can't say for sure. So if you have 9 villagers at the moment and one of them is boxed up, then go for it and make the trade.

I have 10. But I accidentally got a villager in boxes without warning so I'm just staying on the same day. So, 9 villagers and 1 in boxes. Should I just let him pick her up, TT a day ahead, and then go pick up my reserved villager? I'm sorry for sounding so ignorant. This is a new thing for me, lol. I just want everyone involved happy and I'd feel bad if someone didn't get their villager because we messed it up.

If he's got free space, have him pick up your villager first. Once he has done that, both of you TT to the next day. Then go to his town and if his villager is in boxes on that day, pick them up. If this is your current option, go with it.

Or...

If both you and him have your villagers in boxes, then try to see if you can pull that villager into your town after he comes over and takes your boxed villager first. If both your villagers aren't boxed at the same time, then disregard this idea.

And don't worry about it. I'm still pretty new to this whole trading thing. At least on how it works.
