Questions regarding Thread Subscriptions

What does it mean to receive a notification through the control panel? I've been wondering... Does it mean that a response to a thread will give you a numbered notification up on the top of the page? If not, is there any way to do so? I came here from Reddit, and I'm still trying to understand how to use this site. I've found that it's a little tedious to keep going back to the same forum and searching for the same exact thread that I posted on.

Also, what does it mean by sending daily/weekly/etc. notifications to your e-mail?

When a new reply is made to a thread you are subscribed to, you'll be notified. If you choose to do through your e-mail, then obviously the notifications will be sent to your e-mail.

I'm thinking that's what your asking, hopefully this helps.

If you click on settings, any subscribed threads with a new post will be listed on the front page of your control panel. Your subscribed threads should be listed on the right hand side and if it has a new post it will be bolded. Unfortunately, it doesn't notify you in a PM or anything, but it does make it a bit easier to manage your subscribed threads all in one spot with easy access to them.

So basically: Clicking Settings at the top of the website = Control Panel

Oh, Lunatic, sorry if my wording was weird... I guess a simpler way to phrase my question would've been like "How exactly are you notified if you choose the not-email option?"
