Questions about flowers

1) When you plant flower seeds, do you need to water them to make them grow?
2) Do you need to keep watering flowers to keep them from withering? If so, how often?
3) Cross-breeding flowers, you set them up in a check pattern, and leave open spaces - but will new flowers just appear in the open spaces, or should you put a flower there, pick off the flower itself, and then see cross-breeding happen? Read an article on Polygon about it, but that wasn't very clear to me.
4) If you give your villagers watering cans, will they water flowers? My villagers are so useless, they don't pay **** for bridges and inclines, so the least they could do is water the goddamned flowers, haha.

1) No, they'll grow without being watered.
2) No, they won't wither if they're not watered.
3) The new flowers will appear in the empty spaces. Picking the flowers is not needed.
4) Villagers seem to have their own watering cans already and they will occasionally water flowers. Sometimes they get obsessed with one or two plants and water them over and over.
