Questions about creating a new town

Hello fellow Animal Crossing fans!

I have some questions about welcome amiibo and hope someone can help me with this. I purchased the psychical version of new leaf welcome Amiibo 1.5. because I lost my original game. My town was called Smoothie because that is my favorite drink, but as I said I lost that one. I have never done plot resetting and/or used amiibo's that I have, but now that I have to start over I have a few questions (I have yet to start so my starting villagers are still unknown to me).

I have searched a lot on the internet for information and installed the animal crossing wiki app on my phone, where you can see a chart of how well the villagers fit together. I want to make a fairy-tale themed town (my old town was fairy tale themed as well), so I will do so again. I used to play with my friends, but they all just did the update, so they can not help me, hopefully someone of you can!

My questions are this:

Which villagers (preferably with names and a total of 10) will fit best together? I know that ?toile indicates a mermaid PWP and that normal villagers can do that and a peppy villager. But what are the best 10 villagers that fit this theme for New Leaf Welcome Amiibo version 1.5 from the beginning of the game?

Does plot resetting still work or not? I have no old 3ds and know that Nintendo (some say it does and others say it doesn't work any more) patched this out.

Do I need to use amiibo cards or not to get the best matching villagers? (for my theme)

Do you get Katrina's shop or not after the update of the game to 1.5 in other towns or do you only need to receive people in your own Town? Because I now bought the latest version.

Do designs still work to try and let villagers live in a certain place in 1.5? (actually the same as plot resetting)

What is the best map to choose from? At my first play through I was fine with the first map that was being showed to me. But I would like, since I have to start over again the best possible map for collecting everything for version 1.5 (fish, fossils, achievements etc, and hopefully the villagers to live roughly in one place leaving enough room for the PWPs)

Can I achieve a perfect town rating without making everything (my house included) with gold nuggets?

Hopefully someone can help me with some tips and guidelines before I start playing again. I have read so many forums and searched everything on the internet, but a lot of information is for the older patches.

Oh, and on a side note, I had a beautiful town, but I'm thinking about making a night owl town. I cannot play all the time, so I know that there is a chance that I will lose villagers faster this way. Is this also true at version 1.5 or doesn't that matter?

I do have some favorite villagers, but I would like to have my town in this theme, so that does not really matter to me at first.

1) I can't speak to what villagers would fit best as that's a personal choice. Fairy tale is a pretty broad theme, so it might be good to look through all of the villagers and see which you like. Two that come to mind immediately though are Julian and Drago.

2) Plot resetting still works. Sometimes they just like to plot in the same space though, so it seems like it isn't. You just need to have the 3x3 room for them to fit their house in and to have enough perseverance to see the mission through to completion.

3) You can use amiibo cards if you so desired, and it would make things faster, but the prices vary based on popularity. They are discontinued so the prices are decided by tier lists and seller's discretion. Alternatively, you can adopt villagers from other people on the forums, mint condition (starting clothes, house, catchphrase) or used.

4) Only visitors to Katrina's tent who live in your town contribute to being able to unlock Katrina's shop on Main Street. You can make this process go by faster if you make a new character, visit Katrina, save, and then delete them if you don't want them anymore.

5) Yes, but if there's not enough space available then they will plot on top of the design you laid down.

6) We can't really tell you that without seeing them. I personally prefer to have two landmasses with roughly equal sizes so that there's enough room for everything and so it all looks good.

7) Your Happy House Academy rating has nothing to do with Perfect Town status. You don't need to customize things with gold ore if you don't want to.

8) Villagers will still move out of your town if you take unaccounted for breaks. I prevent this by playing as a time traveler, keeping a log of the last in-game date and time I played, and if I take a break then I time travel back to that date so that no villagers move out. This would also prevent flowers from wilting and weed growth because the game considers it to still be the same day even if you don't play for months or a year or more as long as you go back to that same day.

So your theme is fairly tale? as far as villagers that would just fit the aesthetic of that I would think Etoile, Julian, Tia, Colton, Sterling, Drago, Diana, Epona, Margie, W. Link

And I think that's also a decent mix to get all the pwp's you would need.

All are obtainable through cards and you can get them here on the forum! Also for the welcome amiibo villagers i thought you had to use their cards or obtain them through someone else or here on a forum.

As far as your map goes it's really personal preference, i've spent hours resetting trying to find the right map that had everything I wanted.

I will say if yiou're going for a fairy tale vibe and want a lot of beautiful and exquisite pwp's i would try and get a map that has a good amount of space on both sides of the river with a max of 2 ponds.

I'm not sure about losing villagers faster by only being able to play certain times - it makes sense because if you're not there to constantly check up on them then i can see where them leaving would happen more frequent.

You don't need gold anything to get perfect status I got that long before I got any golden exterior or anything!

Normals suggest the pwp but you will need a peppy to suggest the fairly tale bridge

Can I safely remove margie for kid cat? Or will he conflict with the other villagers you named? Do you have the card numbers for the villagers you mentioned by any chance?

Kid Cat is a jock so he can give you THESE pwps

So getting rid of Margie would be getting rid of a normal villager BUT you still have Etoile so you'll still be able to get the fairy tale pwps

so if you feel like having kid cat instead that just adds more pwps to choose from!

This is very very helpful so thanks so much!! I had the old physical from just new leaf but now the physical from new leaf welcome amiibo. Margie is cool btw, I have all the 456 cards (and many doubles) and just played for 3 months on my lost physical, therefor everything I looked up for that old game, all of a sudden changed and I'm really sad about it, but this is going to be a whole new adventure with other villagers, so I'm so happy that you both responded so soon!!! And Julian is awesome, who doesn't want a unicorn horse! I wanted him in my new town and to hear that it's a perfect fit is even better!

(Two questions tho: I always used Katrina at whisp for items (you get her picture first which is a plus), does it really matter who you use each day for this? And the second one is : should the villagers live next to the PWPs (I personally like them all close to one another, but don't know if this is beneficial for the PWPs and the villagers themselves)?

And I'm doing HHD first, just because you get a benefit (don't know what lol) for it if you have that in ACNL(WA) and there I can just use my favorites (like fe Stitches, who lives in your town Tiffany, which is just awesome!)

Hope one of you can help me with this last piece of the puzzle (tho I'm sure more questions will pop up in my head .

Not sure how to respond to your first question about Katrina.

The only benefit I know of that Happy Home Designer gives you in Animal Crossing New Leaf is that you get a few massive, exclusive items. If there's anything else that I'm overlooking, someone else would have to let you know. I never purchased Happy Home Designer and just bought the items that it gives you from other people here on the forums.

As for the second question, you do not need to place Public Works Projects near the villagers who recommend them or anything like that. I've never done anything of the sort, and there is no benefit to doing so. You can if you want to, but I'd personally find such a thing quite limiting depending on what Public Works Project it was.

There's no such thing as a village compatibly list, you put who you want in, it doesn't matter about the personality in the least.

There is a wiki chart about it, read online that you need a normal villager and a peppy one to get all the fairy tale PWP. So you say the opposite of what 2 people before you said. I don't know....
